Kristin Spoils - November 30, 2009

Latest spoilers from Kristin from E!:

Jackson in Utah: Kristin, please tell me there is hope for Owen and Cristina on Grey's Anatomy! I love them, and all this stuff with Kim Raver is giving me a coronary.

You are so not alone! But the good news is that I'm assured by a source that we have not seen the last of Cristina and Owen happy together. Word is there are many fans among the writers of these two, and Shonda Rhimes herself just tweeted: "I love Owen and Cristina too. A ton of Owen and Cristina stuff is coming up. In January. When we air again."

A Message To Yang/Hunt(ers)

Grey's boss, Shonda Rhimes, tweets:
@shondarhimes: O/C tweeters: I love Owen and Cristina too. A ton of Owen and Cristina stuff is coming up. In January. When we air again.

All About Yang And Hunt

Recently Sandra's co-star Kevin McKidd kindly answered a few questions asked by his fans over at Kevin McKidd Online about Yang and Hunt, and their latest storyline which seems to be causing a bit of an uproar among the fans from what we can tell about your comments on our site.

Here is one of the questions where he mentions Sandra:

2 - I think one reason a lot of fans might be frustrated this season is we are equally rooting for Owen and Cristina to get it together for each other, but haven't really seen them on screen as a couple that much this season. Lately they seem forty years away from each other instead of being together in forty years. Does it surprise you how passionate people are about this couple?

Kevin McKidd: It is great that people are passionate about these two - cris and owen are passionate people and sandra and I are passionate about these two being together. For my part,I feel it is an important and vital story that we began last season -a story we should follow through on. There has been a lot going on this season . a lot to establish etc - so yeah I get the frustration but people should try not to worry - there time will come i truly hope. he wants to be there in 40 years time still, and he hopes she does too..

Nobody Puts Cristina Yang In The Corner Pt. 2

The cast of Grey's Anatomy attended a press conference with the foreign press some time ago, which is where this Brazilian article is from. Here is more from that press conference from an article published today in a Singaporean newspaper.

RIGHT after I received a text message that my friends had just welcomed their baby into the world, I rushed myself to the hospital. I did not see the neonate and his proud parents, though. Mainly because they were in Singapore and I was in Hollywood - and the sign on the hospital doors read "Seattle Grace Hospital".

I was on the set of that ever-popular hospital drama, Grey's Anatomy, and boy, did it feel uncannily like a real hospital - tacky linoleum flooring, classically-furnished waiting room, a bunch of stretchers, tongue depressors. Just without the smell of disinfectant. But with one very fetching design element: Eric "McSteamy" Dane.

Yes, us lucky journos got a chance to chat with one of the most good-looking casts to work in a hospital - yes, Grey's leaves House MD, Chicago Hope, ER and General Hospital eating its dust in the hottie stakes.
...
Meanwhile - and try to keep up here - we got on with what happens in the new sixth season: George O'Malley (played by T R Knight) is killed off; Mark Sloan (Dane) and Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) are still dating but Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) have a few problems in their relationship when Lipstick Jungle's Kim Raver enters the fray playing a surgeon from Owen's past. Jessica Capshaw, who plays the lover of Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez), is promoted to a series regular; and Chandra Wilson, who plays Miranda Bailey, even directs an episode.

At the press conference, the cast gave us the lowdown, while I tried not to let McSteamy catch me staring. No, I wasn't perving - I was on the look out while contemplating sneaking a tongue depressor for a souvenir. And no, that's not a colourful euphemism.

How difficult was it to shoot that emotional first episode where George dies?

Sandra Oh: That was really strange and noticeable within our cast dynamic. I personally wish we'd dealt with it a little bit more.
What else is in store for your characters this season?

Sandra: (Kim Raver) better bring her A-game! Try to break me and my man up? But who knows? There are little bits of ups and downs, but mostly it's more of a regular relationship.

Kevin McKidd: Yeah, the thrust for them last year was dealing with this whole syndrome Hunt's dealing with. Now, their life is, 'What are we as a partnership and as a relationship?' The problem has been, in some way, laid to rest. It's much more normal.

Sandra: Yeah, it's not as fraught with, 'Are we going to be together?'

Kevin: And 'Am I going to strangle you?' (Laughs)

Do you have disagreements with the show's writers over your characters?

Eric: Every day. One of my themes is, "I wouldn't say this". And they're like, "Yes, you would. Trust me, Eric, you would say this".

Kevin: I had a 10-page email exchange about what my character had for breakfast last week. It was 10 long paragraphs back and forth, back and forth, about why I shouldn't be having that.

Rule Number One: You Do Not Talk About Fight Club

Sandra attended KoreAm magazine's annual awards ceremony this Saturday where she was one of the presenters (more on that later) and here is some fresh gossip from Twitter from a guy who interviewed her:
@ChrisTrondsen: I asked her a question about her character on Grey's Anatomy and she walked off saying she didn't want to talk about the show.

Yeah, we kinda understand.

Sandra Oh On Spin-Offs, Isaiah Washington And Games

Season Four of Grey's Anatomy is just being released in the UK and Last Broadcast has published an interview with Sandra. We don't know how recent the interview is, but it is interesting nonetheless.

Does the Sideways star want her own spin-off show? Is Sandra as messy and competitive as Dr Cristina? And what exactly does she think of her former Grey’s co-star Isaiah Washington? Read on for all the answers...

The creator of Grey’s Anatomy – Shonda Rhimes – has been working on the spin-off show, Private Practice, this year... Did you worry that the quality of both shows might start to deteriorate because she’s got less time to spend on each?

I don't know if I can really comment on the quality of the other show, but I know I can all comment on the quality of our show and what we've put into it. We're all happy that we have a sister show, which is its own entity, and we’re putting all our support behind it.

But have you seen less of Shonda on set this season?

Well, sometimes it can be tough to get 30 seconds with Shonda anyway, so when she is split within two shows, it can be difficult. But at least the other show runs from LA, too.

Would you like to appear in your own spin-off to Grey’s Anatomy?

No way. Kate Walsh [who plays the lead role in Private Practice] has got a lot of energy, you know. She really wanted it. I think you really have to want it – and personally, I don’t.

Isaiah Washington left the show in a blaze of publicity in 2007. How do you feel about losing him as a workmate and how the writers have negotiated his exit?

Regarding the writers, I feel they were in a very, very challenging position. Ultimately the departure of Isaiah had nothing to do with the writers but at the end of Season Three they had to make the story work in two ways. They didn't know what was going to happen. They were either going to start the next season with the character of Burke or they were going to start the season without the character of Burke. Ultimately the decision came down from above and he was not going to be joining us, so they had to scramble and go with the decision of him not being there.

Was that a tough decision for you?

Grey's Anatomy: Krista Vernoff On 'Holidaze'

From Krista Vernoff who wrote tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy:

And since we’re chanting the good… Can we talk about the hot hot hot HOT Owen Cristina kissing??? Oh my God, I’m like a fan girl, I can’t help it. And how ‘bout the scene where Owen whispers into Teddy’s mouth, “I’m in love with Cristina.” I wrote it. I pictured it. But when I saw it? I seriously threw up a little in my mouth. It was SO brutal – and what was so brutal is that Owen didn’t mean to be brutal. He clearly loves them both. Which is…impossible. And devastating. And BRUTAL. I mean it – how could Teddy not love him? Playing guitar one minute, torturedly whispering into her mouth the next… How that will all play out, I do not know. I mean it, I don’t know. We’re a little behind in the writer’s room. But I’m as excited as you are to see how it all goes down!

You Know Who On You Know What

Kevin McKidd interview from Entertainment Weekly:

Grey’s Anatomy fans — particularly those who love the relationship between Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) as much as I do — got a little queasy last week with the arrival of Kim Raver’s Dr. Teddy Altman. While, of course, we watch the show for the drama, it’s hard not to feel protective of a couple that’s overcome so much — his post-traumatic stress disorder from serving in combat, her general prickliness. So it’s hard to take kindly to a pretty, talented doctor type who shows up out of nowhere, then becomes Cristina’s mentor only to also confess her festering-since-their-military-days feelings for Owen. If it’s any consolation, McKidd feels our pain: “Sandra and I, when this [storyline] was pitched to us, we became very angst-ridden about it,” he says. “We love working together, and I think that adds to the dynamic on screen.” The triangulation continues to unfold on tonight’s episode — here’s what McKidd had to say about what Cristina-Owen fans can expect from the hour and in the near future:

Teddy really could be the “cardio god” Cristina’s been desperately seeking. “The fun of this whole situation is that Teddy really is a fantastic cardiothoracic surgeon. If she hadn’t joined the Army, she would’ve been one of the cardio gods. So she’s a perfect fit for Cristina. I think that is going to make things way more complicated.”

Get ready for a three-way … emotional connection. “Teddy and Owen have this incredible bond from having served together, and Owen and Cristina are in love. Now Teddy’s starting to see what a great surgeon Cristina is going to be. So it’s a really interesting three-way, intense … I wouldn’t say love affair, but respect for each other.”

No need to fret for Cristina and Owen’s future — just yet. “The story of Owen and Cristina is a very important story. It’s about two people struggling to keep their love alive and their passion alive in the face of this mental illness, post traumatic stress disorder. I think that’s one of the reasons why people are so passionate about it. I don’t think the love that Owen and Cristina have for each other is going to go away.”

Things will heat up tonight. “You really start to see the bond between Cristina and Teddy build. But Teddy told Owen this thing last week [when she confessed her romantic feelings], and that becomes the elephant in the room.”

There won’t likely be any more kissy-face between Cristina and hot new doctor Jackson (Jesse Williams) — at least not if McKidd has anything to say about it. “Owen doesn’t know anything about their kiss. At the moment I’m not hearing that it’s going to come up again. But if Owen did find out about it, I feel like it would be an ugly scene.”

Even More From Kevin McKidd

Kevin McKidd interview from the New York Post with a Sandra-mention:

When “Grey’s Anatomy” came onto the scene in 2005 we were introduced to Patrick Dempsey’s sultry scruff and wavy hair which formed the small screen perfection of Dr. Derek Shepherd, later referred to as McDreamy. A couple of years later we were given the tailored beard and shirtless sexiness of Dr. Mark Sloan, soon re-named McSteamy. And then last year “Grey’s” brought us the pinnacle of this buff-pyramid with Dr. Owen Hunt, who has yet to be labeled anything other than complicated. Until now.

Kevin McKidd, who plays Dr. Owen Hunt, the post-US Army trauma surgeon turned head of trauma at Seattle Grace, recently revealed to PopWrap a few little nuggets of hotness about this seasons “Grey’s Anatomy.” First off, when asked about his so far M.I.A. nickname, he told PopWrap, “Sandra Oh came to set the other day and said that she had friends who were calling me Dr. Delicious. So I guess that would be the name. Maybe it will stick on set, either way it’s nice to stray away from the ‘Mc’ names.”

Oh yes Kevin, we are on board with that.

Since Dr. Hunt is now the main single man at Seattle Grace, it looks like they will milk his sex appeal for all it’s worth. When asked about his new love-triangle, Kevin said, “When they came to us with the idea to add Dr. Teddy Altman’s character into the mix with Sandra and I, we weren't sure about it. Yet, after we saw how it would play out, and with the addition of Kim Raver as Teddy, it all fell together beautifully.”

And as for Owen’s post-traumatic past, well PopWrap wondered if he would have anther “episode” (i.e. strangling Sandra Oh’s neck). He told us that if it were to ever rear its ugly head again, "Teddy’s character very well could be the catalyst." Adding, "If it does, I have a feeling that Dr. Hunt will react very differently, be it good or bad. But I am not sure what could happen, he is very different now than he was during that first altercation.”

More Yang+Hunt Talk With Kevin McKidd

Here is another new interview with Kevin McKidd from iVillage where talks about Cristina and Owen:

Scottish actor Kevin McKidd, 36, is taking some heat from Grey's Anatomy fans. His character, Dr. Owen Hunt, who is dating Sandra Oh's Cristina Yang, has added a new surgeon to Seattle Grace Hospital: the gorgeous Dr. Teddy Altman, played by Kim Raver. McKidd gives us the dirt on how Teddy will affect Owen and Cristina's relationship, how much Owen knows about Cristina's ex, Dr. Burke (Isaiah Washington), and how fans have influenced his performance. Plus: Have McKidd's children seen his work?

Are there rough roads ahead for Cristina and Owen?

I think rough road is too simplistic. I think, yeah, it's not going to be easy. It's never meant to be easy. It's a TV show. But I think it's rough and also very passionate. I think this season so far for them has been very work oriented. I think they've realized they have very different points of view when it comes to work. They have this deep connection in their personal life with each other and I think you saw that last season. This season was seeing them disagree on fundamental issues at work. I think this whole thing with Teddy is going to really crystallize and intensify everything that's come before and change everything in a way we don't expect. I think it's going to bring some really interesting revelations about Owen and Cristina.

Should fans be worried about the arrival of Teddy?

Teddy and he are friends. Very close friends. My analogy is almost like two people who climb Everest together. They probably know more about each other -- the essence, the core of that person -- than that person's wife. And I think being in Iraq is kind of that same experience. So it creates a really interesting dynamic. Cristina is now obviously going to fall in love with Teddy because she's the teacher she always wanted and is this amazing surgeon. Cristina and Owen are in love. They've struggled so much and they know how much that means to them. And Teddy and Owen have this deep connection. So I think that it's almost like a strange embrace that the three of them are in. I think that it's not going to be a threat, but I think it's going to make things very complicated and there's going to be a lot of passionate exchanges.

Was Teddy's relationship with Owen in her imagination? Or did something actually happen between them in Iraq?

I think we have to wait and see. We're not that far ahead of what you guys are seeing as far as what we're shooting. That's very much the question that she laid out there, and Owen was too taken aback to really say anything in that moment. I think the answer to that question is coming and and it's not what we expect.

Do you know how many episodes Kim Raver will be in?

No, I don't actually. I'm not sure. I wish I knew, but I don't know.

Would you consider Owen naïve? He brought a blonde bombshell into the hospital and didn't think it would complicate things with Cristina.

If it was me and my life, I probably would question it a little bit more. It's a TV show so you have to make those leaps of faith. I get that point of view. But I genuinely think, or the way I justify it, is that he knows Cristina. There's been a lot of comments saying he doesn't get her. He does get Cristina. He absolutely does. He knows Teddy so well. He knows how fantastic she can be. And he knows how frustrated his girlfriend is right now. So I think it is genuine. I think he wants to put all that aside in a way and he knows Cristina might initially have a problem with this. But he has faith that despite her initial reservations she's going to realize that Owen is right and that Teddy is the perfect mentor for her. So I don't think it's naïveté, I think he genuinely loves Cristina and he genuinely has a positive outlook.

Will Owen find out about Cristina kissing Jackson?

I don't think he will. No. I'd be interested to see how he reacts if he ever did. I don't think it would pretty, because he's very possessive and very passionate about his relationship. But I do not think he's going to find out about it.

Based on last episode's lunchroom scene, it seemed like Owen knew about Cristina's relationship with Dr. Burke. Do you know if that's the case?

I actually debated that with a writer on set that day. My feeling on that is that Owen knows as much as this guy Burke was one of the top cardio Gods in his field, so obviously most attending surgeons would know that person's name. But beyond that I think he knows the bare bones of what may or may not have happened. I think that's it. I don't think that story's been told yet for Owen. That's how I'm operating. He knows the basic information, but he does not know the truth.

Does fan feedback influence how you think about your character?

It does. You know I think people have become so invested in these characters that I think it would be disrespectful to not take those points of view into account. It's a very interesting dynamic between fans and you the actor and the character. Because me, the actor Kevin McKidd, I sometimes see Owen do things that I don't agree with and I don't think he should do. But the point is that of course he should do that because it makes good TV and it creates the bait and heat and some kind of controversy about people's choices. People make mistakes in their life all the time, so why shouldn't TV characters? I think that dynamic between what fans want for their favorite characters and what the actor wants for their character and what the actor ends up doing is always very interesting.

When Co-Stars Get Along

Kevin McKidd is currently promoting his and Sandra's storyline on Grey's Anatomy in the press which is why we have all these interviews with him in case you were wondering if you had arrived at Kevin McKidd News. ;) We do like Kevin McKidd though, who seems like a very nice dude.

So here is another lovely interview with Kevin from E! Online where talks about working with Sandra:

Here's the bad news: Kim Raver's Teddy Altman is definitely a complication for Grey's Anatomy's most beloved twosome of the moment: Kevin McKidd's Owen Hunt and Sandra Oh's Cristina Yang. As Kevin McKidd correctly pointed out when we spoke earlier this week, "For a TV show to work, the characters can't be happy all the time." (Bah humbug!)

Now, here's the good news: McKidd and costar Oh are both total Crowen shippers who want to see their characters together as much or more than we do. McKidd testifies, "I want the best for him. I want him to be happy. I want him to be in love. I want him to be all these things, and so does Sandra [for her character]." And you've got to believe that all that love for love will win out in the end, right?

Kevin McKidd explained to us why he and Sandra are so in sync, both on- and offscreen, and what this triangle means for the show. Plus, McKidd revealed a worrisome suspicion that Owen's old nemesis might be back sooner rather than later...

The awesome McKidd made us very happy when we enticed him to talk about his press-shy and universally acknowledged as brilliant costar Sandra Oh.

McKidd told us, "I love her to bits. I think we both come from the same place as far as wanting the work to feel rooted and real and true. She's very protective over her character, understandably. As am I. One of the problems and the downsides of working on a long-term character is that you, the actor, become very protective over the character. I want the best for him. I want him to be happy. I want him to be in love. I want him to be all these things, and so does Sandra. But we both know that for a TV show to work, the characters can't be happy all the time. That's the whole point, so there's this weird thing going on, which is I think Sandra and I both right now are finding it hard because we're so kind of in love with the characters, and so kind of invested in Owen and Cristina being together. Suddenly there's this potential for danger. I [think we are] quite anxious ourselves for our characters' happiness. I think again, that adds to the chemistry of it all."

And that chemistry will indeed be tested in the coming weeks, and we aren't the only ones who are anxious about it. McKidd says, "People are hopefully going to be very, very torn and very involved and kind of sucked into it. I think it's a very interesting story we're telling...Stuff happens that you do not expect. Because you know when things like this happen in life, it can change your perception on a dime. And I think the intensity of that is going to be a really interesting player." Oh well, if we Grey's fans are going to be saddled with "intensity" rather than rainbows and unicorns, at least we'll be enduring it in the company of Oh and McKidd, two of the greatest "intense" actors currently working on TV.

And when the intensity gets to be too much, we'll just have to take our cues from the actors. McKidd says that when the anxiety gets to be too much, "At the end of the day we kind of have to laugh about it. We know it's just a joke. I think. [Laughs.] We spend a lot of time talking about these two people. We were really good friends, Sandra and I. We spend a lot of time worrying about—it's worry. It's almost like parents worrying over their children." (We know!)

Romance notwithstanding, other elements of Owen's world remain unsettled: "I don't think the PTSD thing is over for Owen. I think we're going to see more of that. The thing about posttraumatic stress disorder is that you can learn to manage in your life, but you can never fully get rid of it. I think that is going to come back to haunt him. I would hope, I don't know, but I would hope that we're going to see and deal with it in a very different way than he did last year. He was in denial about this thing that he had last year, and now he knows fully that he has this thing, and that is part of the process. I want to see that. I want to see him deal with it again but in a much more reformed way, because that is the true journey of posttraumatic stress disorder."

More From Kevin McKidd

More Yang+Hunt talk from this interview with Kevin McKidd from ET Online:

When Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) scrubbed into Seattle Grace Hospital on "Grey's Anatomy" last season, he quickly found himself attracted to Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), but acting on it was another matter. Having just returned from the war in Iraq, he was dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder -- and he tried to strangle her.

Now in therapy, Owen and Cristina are moving on with their relationship, or are they? Owen just invited Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) into the mix. He thought he was giving Cristina a present by bringing a top-notch heart surgeon to Seattle Grace, but Teddy has romantic feelings for Owen, so is she really going to be a gift for himself? A love triangle can't be too far behind!

Kevin talks to ET about the two women in Owen's life, McNicknames and all the babies on the set.

ET: Do you think Owen really loves Cristina?

Kevin McKidd: Yes, why do you even ask?

ET: He is just back from the war, there could be a lot more involved in it. Last week, he rejected Teddy, but triangles are always nice, so do you think he may have second thoughts?

Kevin McKidd: I don't know if it is second thoughts. He and Teddy were very good friends for a long, long time. I have done a lot of research into war experiences, specifically medics working in Iraq and Afghanistan. And the bond that is created between colleagues working in such an intense environment is huge and very undeniable. I think he and Teddy have a friendship that is more intense than a friendship you would have with somebody you work with in an office. I think that makes him realize that her friendship really matters to him. They have been through hell and back together. She obviously has these feelings. It gets more complicated and more intense, as opposed to him having second thoughts. There is one thing that is not in question and that is that he has committed to Cristina and is in love with Cristina. Although, as we know in TV shows those feelings, promises and truths get tested sometimes.

ET: Right, because Jackson (Jesse Williams) did kiss Cristina.

Kevin McKidd: Owen doesn't know about that. She is not saying anything.

ET: So now he has brought these two important women in his life together. Does he have concerns about that?

Kevin McKidd: Whatever is going to happen, the writers will set it up very well. I think it will get more tense and complicated, but it is not necessarily a negative thing. It is a very interesting thing. And it is something you haven't seen before as it goes to a more traditional love-triangle situation.

ET: There have been several actors taking leaves from the show: Ellen Pompeo had her baby, Patrick Dempsey and Katherine Heigl have movies -- is that good because it lets other people move to the forefront? You do have a lot of new cast members this season.

Kevin McKidd: There have been so many new people coming in. The writers have had to concentrate on establishing those characters, but it hasn't caused difficulty. I don't think it has hurt the show. It gives them potential new stories and new dynamics.

ET: Are they ever going to give you a McNickname?

Kevin McKidd: I don't know. I am not the person to do that. I've got one already, I guess.

ET: McArmy?

Kevin McKidd: I have heard that one. McBada$$ is another one.

ET: "Rome" went two seasons, "Journeyman" went one, how nice is it to be on a show that looks as if it will be around for years?

Kevin McKidd: Great. What I love is that they have given me a character who I think is a very interesting man. We will see a different side of him this year. I think in the second half we are going to see a lot more. He is an intense, dedicated, honorable man, who is conflicted and passionate. He is an interesting mix of those things. I am happy to keep exploring it.

ET: Can you talk about working with Sandra and Kim?

Kevin McKidd: When I joined the show, I felt so blessed to get Sandra as my acting partner. And I still feel exactly the same way, if not more so. Then Kim comes along and she is a consummate actress. She can really hold her own with Cristina Yang (Oh). She has the chops. I am getting the chance to work with two actresses who are really passionate about their work. I am in a really happy spot right now. Also, it is great that they really like each other, because it could have been tough. It creates an interesting dynamic for this triangle because that translates on the screen.

Cristina And Owen Plus One

TV Guide has posted a this new interview with the lovely Kevin McKidd where he talks about Yang and Hunt:

Grey's Anatomy executive producer Shonda Rhimes gave fans a wonderful couple to root for in Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd), and then introduced Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) into the mix. While some fans may be worried for their new favorite couple, McKidd tells TVGuide.com that "Crowen" may survive this triangle. That doesn't mean there aren't a few bumps along the way. McKidd discusses the deep connection Teddy and Owen have, and more ...

TVGuide.com: What more will we learn about Owen's relationship with Teddy?
Kevin McKidd: What's interesting to their relationship — that adds a lot of heat and complications to what some people call a triangle — they are very good friends and they've known each other a very long time. They worked in one of the most intense work environments any human being can be in. Having read all the books that I read on Iraq and Afghanistan and what these people do, it's a really bonding and very intense experience that brings these people together. When you're under fire in that way, you really get to see the essence of somebody. Teddy and he have that level of bond because they've seen each other in life and death situations on a daily basis, and that adds some real intensity and some real heat to this whole thing.

TVGuide.com: Will Owen find out about Cristina and Jackson's kiss?
McKidd: I really don't know. I don't think so. It doesn't seem like that's going to come up again. That doesn't seem like something Owen is going to find out.

TVGuide.com: Though if he does find out, do you think he might retaliate by kissing Teddy?
McKidd: [Laughs] I don't think so actually. I think Owen is a pretty standup guy and a straight shooter in that sense. I think if that ever happened, it would be for different reasons. It would be for more complicated reasons if that ever happens

TVGuide.com: With Teddy revealing that she has feelings for Owen, how complicated will all of this get in the hospital?
McKidd: What's going to be interesting is that Cristina obviously has bonded very quickly with Teddy, there's already a very strong bond between Teddy and Owen, and obviously Cristina and Owen are bonded and in love. They've been disagreeing and going through stuff so far, but they definitely love each other. What's going to happen is, we're going to see people in ways that we don't expect and it's going to bring up things that we didn't see coming. This is a very adult situation. It's not some teenage, juvenile triangle that they're trying to fill. They're very passionate about each other. They're in this strange clench that all three of them don't want to get out of.

TVGuide.com: Can Cristina and Owen's relationship survive this?
McKidd: I hope so. I love working with Sandra. They've gone through so much since they met. They were thrown together in such an intense way and I hope they can make it through it, be stronger for it and find some happy times because it's not been easy for them since they got together. Personally, I think they will because they have a great, deep connection with each other.

TVGuide.com: Are any of the couples safe at Seattle Grace?
McKidd: I think I read a quote from Shonda saying the whole season is thematically about couples. Last year was about getting people to be couples, and this season is about dealing with the problems that couples have. That's really the focus of this year.

Shonda Rhimes Spoils

Latest spoilers from TV Guide Magazine who talked to Grey's boss, Shonda Rhimes:

The Seattle Grace docs are officially making their 2009 rounds and Grey's Anatomy creator Shondra Rhimes promises a pulse-pounding end to the year and new beginnings in 2010.

“It’s starting to get really exciting, especially as we head towards these episodes that end the year and start the new year,” Rhimes told TV Guide Magazine at "The Princess and the Frog" premiere at Walt Disney Studios. “We’ve got some really great stuff coming.”

Now that Owen and Christina are a couple, will the new resident surgeon Teddy Altman – aka “cardio doc” (played by Kim Raver) – put a heart-stopping wrench in their fledgling romance? Rhimes urges fans to stayed tuned.

“Yes, but not how you’d expect,” revealed Rhimes. “I think everyone assumes it’s going to go one way. It’s a very different story than we’ve ever told before.”

Hot And Complicated

Kevin McKidd talked to Kristin from E! on the latest developments on Grey's Anatomy now that the "dreaded" Teddy has arrived:

Cristina hates her. With a passion. And so far, it seems that some of you fans do too.

Ever since Kim Raver (whom Cristina named "Desert Storm Barbie") was introduced on Thursday's episode of Grey's Anatomy, our inbox has overflowed with messages from fans wanting to know what's next for their favorite couple, Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd), now that Kim's character, Dr. Teddy Altman, is in the mix.

Well, we just talked to Kevin himself, and he admits that he, too, was concerned at first about the triangle, but he warmed up to it, and tells you fans why you might want to keep an open mind.

It's all in our latest roundup of exclusive TV scoop...

Alex in Rhode Island: Please don't tell me Kim Raver is sticking around long on Grey's Anatomy!

She's not going anywhere for the time being, my friend, and according to Kevin, that is a very good thing! (We believe him because he's the straight-up sort of guy who admits he had his doubts at first and because he also has a sexy Scottish accent that makes you want to believe him.) "When we heard the pitch of this idea for the storyline this year," Kevin tells us, "I think Sandra and I were kind of initially like, 'This is bad.' I think we felt this is a good thing with these two and there could have been more storylines to tell. But you know, I met Kim and we started to work and what seemed to be coming clear very quickly is that we three actors have great respect for each other. And that adds a really interesting dynamic to the triangle as it is played out on the screen because all three of us actors have great respect for each other."

Mindy in Barcelona: What's going to happen with Owen, Cristina and Kim Raver on Grey's Anatomy?
We'll have more for you from Kevin before the next Grey's ep, but for now we can share with you what Kevin says: "It's not going to be some petty, juvenile, immature thing. It's going to be really interesting and very intense. It's going to get much hotter and complicated between the three of them because it is such an adult problem that they have...People are hopefully going to be very, very torn and very involved and kind of sucked into it. I think it's a very interesting story we're telling." Perhaps we should all keep an open mind? Thoughts?

Grey's Anatomy: Allan Heinberg On 'New History'

From this week's writers' blog:

Tonight’s episode, “New History,” is named after a song by Andy Davis, a sly and soulful singer/songwriter, whose protagonist has barely survived a bad breakup and now finds himself unsure whether or not he should embark on a new romance. He doesn’t know if he’s ready to trust his feelings and create what he calls “new history.”

I love the idea of “new history” because it perfectly captures the relationship so many of us have with the past. No matter how hard we try to let go of it –– to learn from it and move forward -- all we’re really doing is creating new history, trying to learn from past mistakes, but inevitably making new ones that will haunt us in the future.

The past, it would seem, is inescapable. Everything we are today is the product of who we were yesterday, last month, last year: the choices we made, the red lights we ran, the things said and maybe shouldn’t have, the people we loved, and the people we didn’t. So, how to make peace with the past? What can be done about the mistakes we made, the lies we told, and the people we hurt to get where we are today?

...

And then sometimes the past doesn’t stay in the past. Teddy’s arrival at Seattle Grace unleashes all manner of complications for Owen, Cristina, and herself. Cristina’s immediately suspicious that Owen and Teddy were more than friends during their time together in Iraq. Teddy confesses to Owen that she apparently misread their mutual history, and walks away from him, mortified. And Owen’s left haunted by Teddy’s confession, now forced to re-examine his own history -- and his feelings for both Teddy and Cristina.

Testing Time For Owen And Cristina

A word from Kevin McKidd on what's coming up on Grey's from an interview with About.com:

Q: You have some pivotal episodes coming up on Grey's Anatomy, what can you tell us about them?
Kevin:
"It's a testing time for Owen and Cristina. They've worked so hard to get where they are and just when they think they're hitting solid ground, stuff happens in TV shows and their faith in each other is going to be tested. I personally hope they're going to pull through it because I think they have a real magic together."

Q: A woman named Teddy (played by Kim Raver) from Owen's past is coming to Seattle Grace -- does Owen bring her in so Cristina will finally have a mentor?
Kevin:
"I think Owen felt like Cristina dealt with so much over the last year with his problems and the PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), yet he kind of feels she doesn't need any help because she's so tough, but he realizes she needs help professionally. She's not being given the direction she needs and she's so talented, but what happens to hugely talented people when they flounder is they become distracted. He makes an attempt to try and refocus her and give her all she needs professionally. Ironically, that might be the thing that jeopardizes their love for each other."

Nobody Puts Cristina Yang In The Corner

We have a lovely new interview with Sandra for you. She and co-star Kevin McKidd were interviewed together by the Brazilian newspaper, Estadao.

The interview was originally published in Portuguese, and we have used Google Translate for the translation. So when you come across a sentence (or many) that doesn't quite sound right, that is the explanation.

UPDATE: Huge thanks to our wonderful Portuguese speaking reader Me who has edited the translation, so check it out again below.

LOS ANGELES - Sandra Oh came to Seattle Hospital on a motorcycle. "She took off her helmet and hair was everywhere," recalls James Pickens Jr., the Chief. Since then, the actress is always nominated for an Emmy and, in the 3rd year (of the series) she deserved the award for the scene with her non-wedding with Burke (Isaiah Washington). In Grey's Anatomy's fifth year, she and Kevin McKidd lived a romance full of ups and downs, and now Cristina Yang and Owen Hunt's relationship will be threatened/put at risk by Kim Raver. which Estado was part of, the actors talked about their characters.

Cristina will have competition now that Kim Raver arrives to undermine the relationship with Owen ...
Sandra: Really? What's coming? What are you saying? Who?

The blonde from 'Lipstick Jungle'...
Sandra:
Let's see what she can do. Try separate my man from me? Huh!

What will happen?
Sandra: Kim Raver is here (laughs). Until her arrival, our relationship was going well, no?

McKidd: Yes, the momentum of them last season was dealing with Hunt's syndrome. And now the question is who they are in the relationship. They are at this point, right? It is a more normal relationship, part of their everyday.

Sandra: But without the 'will we be together?'. We are connected and now someone else is coming ...

You like twists?
Sandra: Unfortunately we do not know what will happen. Obviously a love triangle is taking place/looming on the horizon. I'm anxious to know what the writers are going to come up for us.

Are you Territorialist* for Cristina?
Sandra: After six years, I feel exceptionally territorialist. This is a great word. If you are writing or living a character, part of your soul goes to him/her.

McKidd: You become very protective.

How was shooting the first episode of the season with the death of O'Malley?
Sandra: It was strange to our cast dynamics. I would like if our characters dealt with it a little more. However, the series must go on. And the death of George is in the past and the writers want us to move forward. But I think we will still remember him, because that is what happens. You go somewhere and remember someone from the past and that memory affects you.

After six years, do you dream about work or Cristina's life?
Sandra: Not about her life, but about people on the set. I dream that I'm talking to the writers ...

What is the downside of being in Grey's, since everyboyd says that the the camaraderie on the set is huge?
Sandra: We will not tell you that (laughs) ... But I can say something else. It isn't a complaint but a comment on where TV (in general) is going. We are one of the last dramas in network TV. There are limitations and creative license, which are positive but also negative. I think that nowdays drama is moving over to cable. And network TV needs to continue producing good one-hour dramas to stay in the game, but I know it is cheaper to produce reality shows, you know? Not a complaint, but a concern.

Did you watch the end of 'E.R.'?
Sandra: I was working. But this (E.R.) is a good example of how network TV in its prime worked. The series hired almost all the actors in Los Angeles.

How do you evaluate Cristina Yang's progress all those years?
Sandra: What I like about last season, with the introduction of Owen Hunt, is that you see another side of Cristina, with the more mature side, with compassion. I like the fact she is still ambitious, competitive and hilarious in that aspect, but I like her maturity (now).

Do you love your character to the point of playing her for other 10 years?
Sandra: I think the writers will be able to build a base that allows rotation. ER had three mains cast at different times.

*Me, our reader who edited the translation, explains: Here, in Portuguese it makes perfectly sense to say 'territorialist', meaning you defend your place, your home, your space, your things, ie. You are very protective of what is yours and that's what the writer was asking, if Sandra marks her territory when it is about Cristina.
Source

If you speak Portuguese, we would love if you could help us out and correct the erroneous translation. Cheers!

Grey's Gets New Cardio God

Here is an interview with Kim Raver about her new role on Grey's Anatomy as Cristina's new cardio god:

In Thursday's episode of Grey's Anatomy, a new cardiothoracic doctor comes to the hospital, and she's unlike the previous cardio gods who've held that position. Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) has a past with Owen (Kevin McKidd), which will create future problems for Owen and Cristina (Sandra Oh). Raver tells us all about the new love triangle, how long she'll be sticking around and the possibility of returning to 24 to reunite with Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland).

TVGuide.com: Tell us about Dr. Teddy Altman.
Kim Raver: She's amazing at what she does. She's coming from Iraq. Her and Owen were over in Iraq together. I come in to Seattle Grace and there's something interesting that plays out with the three of us.

TVGuide.com: Is Teddy a mean doctor or a nice one?
Raver: [Executive producer] Shonda Rhimes said she's kind of a bad ass, but she's different than the other cardio doctors that have been at Seattle Grace. She approaches things really, really differently. She's also not warm and cuddly, either.

TVGuide.com: What's her relationship like with Owen?
Raver: All I can tell you is that they were in Iraq together and it will unfold as you see what their relationship is. That's the fun thing to tune in and check out. I can say there is some kind of triangle, but it's very different than what people are expecting. I think Shonda and her team have done an amazing job in the way they introduce my character. I was surprised and wondering how they were going to do this because I know people really care for Owen and Cristina, so it's very well done.

TVGuide.com: Should fans be worried that Teddy will come between Cristina and Owen?
Raver: It's complicated. I think fans will be interested in how that whole relationship is dealt with. That's why I say Shonda is so clever in the way she's bringing Teddy into both of their lives. It's a fantastic triangle and it gets complicated and interesting.

TVGuide.com: The love triangle actually has a fourth point in Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams). These hospital relationships are getting really jumbled.
Raver: But that's the excitement of coming in. Not knowing who is with whom, what's happening to whom. I'm not sure what their plans are for that. We definitely have scenes, but I'm not sure what their thoughts on where that is going to go.

TVGuide.com: Owen hasn't been able to talk to Cristina about his time in Iraq. Will he open up more to Teddy since they have that bond?
Raver: We'll see. They have definitely spent time in Iraq together, so that's a common thread with them.

TVGuide.com: How long will Teddy be sticking around?
Raver: The producers and I have talked about things, but we're just seeing how it goes. We'll see.

Kristin Spoils - November 09, 2009

Latest spoilers from Kristin from E!:

Forget Owen and Cristina on Grey's Anatomy! Give us some scoop on Cristina and Jackson! Please?

Look at you with your contrarian point of view! If you are rooting for Cristina-Jackson, you'll be happy to hear from Jesse Williams that most of his scenes are with Sandra Oh and Chyler Leigh:

"It seems to be Cristina and also Lexie [that I spent most time with], just because our characters did spend that whole episode together last week. Right when we started, Jackson and Cristina did the opposite of hit it off; immediately they had confrontation with each other, but I do think there is an underlying mutual respect and wariness there that will carry on."

Sounds like a definite case of unresolved sexual tension...

The Kids Are Alright

Caption: Sandra Oh talks to kids in Calgary about everything from hot dogs to Buddhism for the TV show Connect Now.

Sandra talked about taping this special in a recent interview:
Surrounded by kids at Calgary's Telus Convention Centre recently, her smile is warm and inviting. Her hair is long, dark and bouncy. She looks like a kid herself dressed in skinny jeans and black converse high-tops. She smiles and jokes with everyone, even though the Golden Globe-winning actress is not getting paid or pampered.

Instead she has volunteered her time and spent nearly six hours talking to kids on camera about everything from hotdogs and stuffed animals to Buddhism and world peace in preparation for her job as cohost of Connect Now, featuring the Dalai Lama at the Saddledome on Sept. 30.

We still haven't managed to find any information if/when/where this will be broadcast. Dear readers, have you?

One Juicy Storyline Coming Up

Fresh from Twitter from Grey's Anatomy boss, Shonda Rhimes:

Question: Why don't you answer about Cristina's storyline?

@shondarhimes: Cuz what happens is so good, so juicy that I don't want to spill the beans.

Also:
@shondarhimes: Everyone: please stop asking me about your couples. I am not going to tell you anything. And it makes me sad for you. It really does.

Kim Raver Is Lucky

Here is some praise for Sandra from her new Grey's co-star, Kim Raver:

Kim Raver says she didn’t have to think twice about coming aboard “Grey’s Anatomy” as heart surgeon Dr. Teddy Altman — not only because she’s a fan of the show, but also because she’d worked with creator Shonda Rhimes before and “I trusted her completely.”

...

The former “24″ and “Lipstick Jungle” actress has found she loves Teddy (a possible threat to the relationship of Sandra Oh’s and Kevin McKidd’s characters) at least as much, however. And the “Grey’s” team.

“My first day, people on the set kept talking about how cold it was and I said, ‘Cold? I can’t help sweating.’ They all understood how I felt, though, and they were welcoming, which really helped my nerves,” she says.

“Sandra — I think she is such a generous actress, and she’s so funny. I’m lucky to be with her and Kevin and the show gang.”

Cristina Yang Has A New Admirer

Jesse Williams, aka as the new hot guy on Grey's Anatomy, talked to TV Guide about the kiss between Jackson and Cristina Yang in last night's episode of Grey's that has got everybody talking, and reveals what is coming up on the show next.

Now that you've seen the kiss between Owen's gal Cristina (Sandra Oh) and new Mercy Wester Jackson (Jesse Williams) on Grey's Anatomy, find out about the aftermath, details on the other Mercy West-Seattle Grace coupling and the return of Izzie (Katherine Heigl) from Williams himself ...

TVGuide.com: Jackson and Cristina kissed! What the ... ?
Jesse Williams: From the beginning when Jackson joined, he's immediately thrown into this direct competition with Cristina. We're on the same cases, we're battling for surgeries. We've had a couple of run-ins. In this episode, she really takes charge and goes with her gut and I'm in a position to really admire her. We have similar character traits and watching her take the reins gets Jackson fired up. He's looking at her differently now. He's seen a whole new side of her that's so attractive. What also helped was that he had been boozing all night, but the attraction is real and it has been mounting. I think she kind of liked it.

TVGuide.com: Yeah, she doesn't pull away right away. She kisses him back for a brief moment.
Williams: That would be Jackson's argument. We don't address it directly right away in the coming episodes. What we're doing is letting it hang out there for a little bit and let the audience feel that tension and the moments between her and I going forward. Jackson doesn't know anything about Cristina and Owen [Kevin McKidd], so it's not an affront to Owen, it's just a man attracted to a woman.

TVGuide.com: Are you worried that fans of Cristina and Owen are going to hate your character?
Williams: You're not supposed to like [the Mercy Westers] off the jump. I view it as Jackson has to take his lumps. He's stepped into the enemy's territory and he welcomes that. It's a pretty relatable crime of passion. We've all been attracted to somebody for all types of reasons. Sometimes you go for it and sometimes you get slapped on the nose for it. I think they'll forgive me.

TVGuide.com: How does this kiss affect the relationship between Cristina and Owen?
Williams: Surprisingly enough, I think it doesn't help or hurt. They're both so strong-headed and so career-oriented that, good or bad, the work comes first. You don't see the residual effects immediately, and then it wells up and it'll explode at some point. We haven't come to that point yet.

TVGuide.com: Kim Raver is coming in as Teddy, who was in the war with Owen. It seems like this is going to turn into a love quadrangle. How does that play out?
Williams: A lot of tension is mounting right now. Everybody is working together and a red flag has not been put in the sand yet. Nobody is laying claim and there isn't a big kerfuffle yet. It's a ticking time bomb. Who's going to make the first move? Who knows? Who doesn't know? Is it obvious? Was it really something or was it truly platonic? I've done a fair amount of scenes with Kim, but I don't know what's going to happen yet. Jackson is definitely paying attention with two ears to see what happens.

TVGuide.com: Will people start to find out about the kiss? Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is returning to the hospital and Cristina does tend to tell her everything.
Williams: It's kind of our secret. Going forward, that's the mystery of it. Cristina does always confide in Meredith, though. I don't know if Jackson's dodges a bullet or not.

TVGuide.com: Cristina and Jackson will have to be around each other a lot still. How hard will that be for them?
Williams: There's so many things going on that when we are together, it's so work-related. We're clashing high speed on issues with patients. There will definitely be constant reminders and temptations. We're worried about prying eyes and who knows what and where, so it's something they keep with them. There's already been a bit of a banter between both of them, and this raises the stakes.

TVGuide.com: Is Cristina his cardio God? Maybe his version of Dr. Burke (Isaiah Washington)?
Williams: It's not so much teacher-student because they're both residents and both pretty bad ass in their field, but I think it becomes more primal, just passionate attraction, more so than being about the work as much as about her style.

TVGuide.com: How will this kiss affect Jackson's transition at Seattle Grace?
Williams: In retrospect, that weighs a bit on Jackson's mind. What have I done? I'm walking into a situation where I am the minority here and I just go head long into something that could potentially have backlash. Jackson has to deal with navigating that, carefully going forward and getting Cristina's take on this. I can say it gets addressed, words are spoken between the two as to how we're going to handle this.

TVGuide.com: Jackson is not the only Mercy Wester who likes a Seattle Gracer. Reed (Nora Zehetner) and Alex (Justin Chambers) are developing a budding relationship. Are the Mercy Westers just home wreckers?
Williams: We are just a passionate people, the Mercy Westers. We know what we like and we take what we like. That's probably how we've gotten ahead. We don't know Izzie, we haven't watched [Izzie and Alex] grow for five years, we weren't there for their wedding, all we know is she's a snappy broad who just got fired for making a stupid mistake. Will some compassion grow from there? Sure. But Reed is on her own there, I'm not the one chasing a married person. I will defend her only to a point.

TVGuide.com: What's the dynamic like once Izzie returns to the hospital in the Nov. 12 episode?
Williams: I think everybody has a lot of unanswered questions for her. What the hell are you doing? What is your deal? Don't take us all down for this and disappear. These are people that care about her, but on the outside, everybody is just concerned with what's going to happen with her now. Alex is the one that takes it hard when she steps foot back in Seattle Grace.
