'Thorne: Scaredy Cat' Comes To Canada

If you live in Canada and have access to The Movie Network and Movie Central then good news, because that is where you will be able to catch Sandra Oh's latest movie project, Scaredy Cat. The bad news is that you'll have to wait until March 2011 to see it. Here is the press release:

Based on the best-selling crime thrillers by author Mark Billingham, Sleepyhead and Scaredycat are two feature length Canada/UK co-productions that follow main character Detective Tom Thorne as he investigates a series of terrifying murders that may be linked. Currently in production and scheduled to premiere in March 2011 on The Movie Network and Movie Central, both films are Cité-Amérique co-productions from Greg Dummett.

SCAREDY CAT

Based on Mark Billingham's second best-selling novel, Scaredycat, Detective Tom Thorne returns in an attempt to prove two murders that eerily echo two previous crimes committed months before are no coincidence. Starring David Morrissey, Sandra Oh, Eddie Marsan and Aiden Gillen. Executive produced by Stephen Hopkins and directed by Ben Ross.

Scaredy Cat will premiere in the fall 2010 on Sky1 in the UK.

Sandra Oh's Simple Pleasures

Now it's time for a brand new interview with Sandra Oh from the upcoming July/August issue of Health Magazine:

What makes Sandra Oh smile? The Grey’s Anatomy star—now in the movie Ramona and Beezus—dishes about the small stuff that makes life grand, from dancing with friends to indulging in Häagen Dazs.

The best thing I do for my health is…breathe and try to be exactly where I am.

Three things that inspire me: my nieces, my teachers, my fear.

My favorite summer pleasure: traveling.

Playing a doctor has made me… appreciate nurses.

I like to treat myself every day to… a salted caramel.

My biggest pet peeve is… people who don’t care.

When I’m not in the mood to exercise, I tell myself… don’t exercise.

My idea of fun: dancing in my kitchen with my close friends.

The last time I went shopping, I bought… organic food.

I will never get tired of eating… Häagen-Dazs Peanut Butter Brittle ice cream. It’s a limited edition—I hope they never stop making it. That and my mom’s mung bean pancake.

If I have a free 10 minutes, you’ll find me… sleeping, trying to meditate, or listening to music.

The part of my body that I’m most confident about: This is obviously a trick question. The whole imperfect thing.

What I love about my life is… pretty much all of it.

BUST: Oh, Sandra! - Part One

(Like you've never read that headline before... )

Dear peeps,

During the Grey's hiatus last year we posted one interview with Sandra Oh each week. We hope you enjoyed that, as we're doing it again this year. We've got some great and rare scans, interviews, articles and photos - most of it thanks to the wonderful, lovely and generous Amy. We will be posting them weekly during the entire summer in addition to the regular news, so here we go folks...

The first interview is from BUST - 'a magazine for women with something to get off their chests' - published in their June/July 2006 issue, and it's a really interesting one with a very opinionated Sandra. Because it's rather long, we have decided to split it up in two parts. The second part will be posted tomorrow.

In part one Sandra talks about roles for women on television and in films, being a feminist and - although being a proud Canadian - what made her consider becoming an American citizen...

To be continued...

Once again, huge thanks to Amy for the scans. You can follow her on Twitter here

Professional Admiration: Joey King

Sandra Oh's Ramona and Beezus co-star Joey King is only 10 years old but already a Sandra-fan. Here is a cute tidbit she shared in a interview with Relatemag:

Sandra Oh as Mrs Meecham, unknown girl and Joey King as
Ramona on the set of 'Ramona and Beezus'.

R: What has been your most “star struck” moment? With who was it with and can you tell us about it?
J: I really love Sandra Oh and I even wrote her a letter asking her to please be Mrs. Meecham, (Ramona’s teacher).

That kid is going places, we tell ya...

Huge thanks to Betty for the heads up on the article.

Photos From The Set Of 'Thorne: Scaredy Cat'

Author Mark Billingham, whose books are being adopted into the tv series Thorne: Scaredy Cat, hung out with the cast on the set while they were shooting and here is the photo evidence:

Professional Admiration: Tyne Daly

Tyne Daly mentions Sandra briefly in a recent interview:

Sandra Oh and Tyne Daly in 'Judging Amy'

Melissa Parker (Smashing Interviews Magazine)
: Is there a chance you’ll be returning to Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. McDreamy’s mother?

Tyne Daly: I don’t know, I don’t run the thing. If they ask me, I’d consider it. I don’t actually hire myself … that would be fun, though (laughs). It was fun to do. Patrick is charming so that was great.

Melissa Parker (Smashing Interviews Magazine): You had worked with Sandra Oh before.

Tyne Daly: Yes, Sandra Oh was one of our Cagney & Lacey babies (appearing in the reunion movie, The View From the Glass Ceiling), and then she did a lovely bunch of things on Judging Amy, too.

Thanks to Betty for the heads up.

Sandra Oh And Ellen Pompeo Are The Goree Girls

Maybe.

For a while now this has only been a rumour on Wikipedia, but now the info has been updated on IMDB.

According to IMDB, Sandra Oh and her Grey's Anatomy co-star Ellen Pompeo have both been cast in a musical called The Goree Girls which also stars Jennifer Aniston. The Goree Girls is based on a true story of an all-female country band in a Texas prison in the 1940s. Sandra Oh is rumoured to be playing Vicki Cristine Rose, and Ellen Pompeo a character called Farrah.

Don't get too excited as there is still no official confirmation and this could change at any time, so take it for what it is peeps.

To read more about the real Goree Girls, Texas Monthly has published an article on them which is available here

Latest Ausiello On Cristina And Jackson...

Ausiello has some good news/bad news in his latest column, depending on how you see things:

Question: That’s great news about Jesse Williams becoming a series regular on Grey’s Anatomy. Let’s hope Shonda does the right thing and pairs him with Sandra Oh. I love me some Jackson and Cristina.

Ausiello: Unfortunately, Williams’ gut is telling him Jastina is not in the cards next season. “My hunch is that if I were to get a love interest, it would be someone new,” he says. “I feel like everyone has been with everyone and most people seem secure in their relationships for now. But I really like working with Sandra so it would be fine by me…But full disclosure, I know nothing. The writers and Shonda have disclosed nothing to me about season 7. But I’m excited for him to make more fully developed relationships with the other [characters]. I want to get myself more embedded and do more doctor work. People always ask about the romance stuff, but I find the hospital business and the surgeries way more fascinating.”

Still In The Emmy Race

Variety predicts:

Who's to say kudos lightning can't strike twice? Having won or been nominated in recent years, these thesps remain in the Emmy running for statuette.

Sandra Oh (Grey's Anatomy)
Oh has been nominated every year "Grey's" has been on the air, so she has become the kudos go-to thesp on the hospital drama. A win still awaits, so maybe the sixth time is the charm.

The Emmy nominations will be announced on July 8.

The Big Ask With Sandra Oh

Scaredy Cat: International Release

We have got some news for those of you who have been wondering if you will be able to see Sandra's upcoming movie Thorne: Scaredy Cat outside of the UK.

We have mentioned earlier that Thorne: Scaredy Cat will be broadcast on Sky1 in the fall 2010 in the UK, where it will air as a television series. This will later be followed by a worldwide theatrical release as a movie.

If you live in Canada, Mark Billingham has a few more details about the Canadian release:
It will be shown in Canada very quickly as some of the finance has come from there. A lot of Canadian talent too, on both sides of the camera, including the fabulous Sandra Oh from "Grey's Anatomy".

And he also said this about the changes from the book:
Many interesting changes from book to TV, which I hope readers will like. Not least...Brigstocke is now a SHE. And I think we have a fantastic Nicklin and Palmer. Ending rather different too, but I shall say no more.

Sarah Chen/McEvoy is a very fascinating character with plenty of things going on, and we don't want to oversell it, but this could turn out to be rather amazing.

An Audie For 'The Maltese Falcon'

The Audie awards, which is an award for outstanding audiobooks and spoken word entertainment, announced the winners at a gala last week and The Maltese Falcon - with among others Sandra Oh, Michael Madsen and Edward Herrmann - won in the category for outstanding audio adaptation.

Here is a review of the adaptation, which was also nominated for a Grammy at this year's awards:

They’re all here—Sam Spade, the streetwise detective; the gorgeous but dangerous dame; the squirrelly guy; and the fat man—all chasing an elusive statue of a mythical bird across the most American of literary landscapes, fog-bound San Francisco in the 1920s. Few novels have been more “noir”—or more influential.
With fine talents like Michael Madsen, Sandra Oh, and Edward Herrmann, Blackstone Audio and the Hollywood Theater of the Ear have created a taut, well-paced audio production, drawn directly from the novel, first serialized in BLACK MASK MAGAZINE in 1929. All of Hammett's signature descriptions and stylish dialogue are at the forefront. Sexy, darkly comic, and broodingly moral, THE MALTESE FALCON is like a jolt of bourbon—it wakes you up and keeps you listening.
