Michelle Krusiec On Working With Sandra Oh

Actress Michelle Krusiec worked with Sandra Oh in the short film A Helping Hand and this is what she wrote about Sandra on her blog:
And in working with Sandra, I felt I got a chance to work with one of our great actresses. There’s a truth to Sandra’s instrument that’s not unlike watching water ripple. It’s riveting.

Things Learned From The Hard Candy Commentary

Sandra Oh plays a character named Judy Tokuda in Hard Candy. [Ellen] Page remembers the character being named Judy was Oh’s idea, even though the producers didn’t like this. They forced her to deliver the line, “I’m Mrs. Tokuda”, but Oh purposefully emphasized the name awkwardly making the take unusable. The take where she says her full name had to be used. She also showed up on set with a colored streak in her hair – Page can’t remember if it was blue or purple – which explains why her hair is tied back in that scene.

Ellen Pompeo on Cristina and Owen's Marriage

During a visit to the "Grey's Anatomy" set while they were shooting their next big crossover episode with "Private Practice" (more on that coming soon), "Grey's" star Ellen Pompeo dished about the future of her on-screen best friend's marriage. "That's a really tough situation," Pompeo said of Owen and Cristina. "I don't see a good end ... Realistically, I don't see how a couple could recover from something so damaging."
"But, this is 'Grey's Anatomy,'" she continued with a laugh. "Anything can happen. We're not necessarily always in reality here."

Let's Talk Grey's Anatomy Musical Episode
Sandra Oh's Grey's Anatomy co-star Patrick Dempsey revealed in an interview with TV Guide that he thought that the "singing episode was a big mistake". Patrick didn't sing in the musical episode, and neither did Sandra. We have no idea what Sandra really thinks about the whole thing, but it wouldn't be a stretch to pretend that it was something like this:

FYI: TV Guide picked the musical episode of Grey's as one of the worst things on TV in 2011.

Matt Roush's Words Of Wisdom...
From the latest Q&A column with TV Guide's Matt Roush:
Question: I'm a huge fan of the Owen/Cristina pairing on Grey's Anatomy, but I haven't been thrilled with their storyline for the first half of the season. I can live with the abortion that took place early in the season, because it would seem that it would provide a deep, engaging storyline for the characters and for the amazing Sandra Oh and Kevin McKidd to act out, but there has been very little fallout thus far and almost no reaction on the part of either character aside from the first couple of episodes of the season. There hasn't even been the usual brilliant, subtle expressions that Sandra Oh is so good at to indicate that Cristina is at least thinking about the impact on her marriage, such as during the scene in [episode 5] where she is fawning over Zola, Derek and Meredith's baby, and Owen leaves the room.
Do you think the lack of reaction and the delaying of any real discussion of the abortion is due to contract talks taking place and whether or not Sandra Oh will come back next season, and do you think that the dragging out and lack of addressing the issue over the first half of the season has done damage to the pairing in the long term, assuming Sandra Oh comes back?
It's very difficult to understand where the writers are going with Cristina and Owen or whether or not it is worth sticking out the rest of the season to see if the situation will be addressed at all. — Michelle
Matt Roush: Seems to me it's more a case of the writers not wanting to belabor (no pun intended) this particular storyline. The dynamic in the scene you described between Cristina and Owen, with Zola as the catalyst, said volumes without it having to be spelled out. Sometimes less is more, though I imagine "shippers" wouldn't be satisfied until these characters get their own spin-off.
I doubt the ongoing contract uncertainties have that much to do with how the first half of the season played out. That's no way to write a show. And should both actors stay on Grey's, which I hope they do, I don't think long-term damage has been done, if any. This situation is something that will always be a part of their history, and who's to say it won't come up at the next turning point in their relationship?
The way these actors played out their roles in the midseason finale, in the wake of Henry's death on the operating table, with Cristina's meltdown seen but not heard, is the kind of drama I'm more interested in, anyway, and I'm gratified that Grey's can still deliver the goods when it wants to this long into its run.

Question: How amazing were Sandra Oh and Kevin McKidd in that scrub room scene on Grey's Anatomy's fall finale? I'd be surprised if there's not an Emmy nomination for one or the other. — Maya (via Twitter)
Matt Roush: That was a very effective and moving scene. Watching her meltdown from the other side of the window just added to the emotion of the moment. I thought McKidd was equally strong conveying the pain as he talked Teddy through her surgery while she babbled on about her husband, not knowing he'd just died. Moments like these are welcome reminders that Grey's Anatomy, despite its flaws and excesses, hasn't run out of gas (unlike Desperate Housewives, which is limping to the finish line this year).
But expecting Emmy nods is only going to set you up for disappointment, I fear. While it's possible Oh in particular could get nominated again — she has five nominations already, but not since 2009 (and she won a Golden Globe in 2006) — the show has pretty much fallen off the Emmy radar over the last few seasons. But then, Loretta Devine won a guest-acting Emmy last year, so you never know.
Cable shows have tended to upstage network dramas in the awards races lately, with only CBS' The Good Wife being a major contender from the broadcast side. And once a show falls out of favor, the real surprise is for it to be welcomed back to the party. Which is a roundabout way of saying that if Oh or her co-stars were to be nominated again, I'd be surprised, but not unpleasantly.

Interview With Grey's New Intern Andrea Savopolos
Wetpaint Entertainment: What has been the best thing about being on Grey's so far?
Andrea Savopolos: The people. The cast and crew of Grey's Anatomy are awesome to work with and to be around. They are all just really fantastic people.
Sandra Oh (Cristina Yang) was sweet, funny, and totally engaged, and Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey) (who directed my episode, Season 8, Episode 3:“Take the Lead”) was such an actor's director, so attentive, considerate, and specific. I really enjoyed the experience.
