Gone Skiin'

A gossip tidbit from People:

Grey's Anatomy star Sandra Oh joined her family for some skiing atop Vancouver's Grouse Mountain. The actress patiently waited on the slope's long lines, and doted over her nieces and nephews, who sported child-sized skis.

Opera And Champagne

A lil' bit of gossip:

OUT AND ABOUT: Sandra Oh, with a mystery date, sitting in the orchestra section of the L.A. Opera's production of Rigoletto. During intermission, the Grey's Anatomy star stayed put in her seat, eschewing the free champagne and mushroom-stuffed crab cakes that awaited VIP guests on the outdoor patio. Said the spy: "She stayed put during intermission, just talking to the guy she was with. It looked like a serious conversation."

A New York Moment With Sandra Oh

To post or not to post (as we normally don't post candids here anymore)... We did. A fan spotted Sandra Oh in New York yesterday. This is her story and it's beautifully written:
We sat outside the Lego store, watching the people ice-skating and trying to figure out where to go next when a woman walking through the throngs of people watching the skaters. Nice dress, I thought. And then I looked at her face… And oh my god. It’s Sandra Oh. Yes, Cristina Yang from Grey’s Anatomy. “It’s Sandra Oh it’s Sandra Oh it’s Sandra Oh,” I whispered to Jill who immediately turned on her camera to take pictures of the actress walking by.
Sandra looked great. She had a funny look on her face – she was half-smiling, almost as if she was amused that she was able to walk through the crowd without people recognizing her. But a couple of girls did recognize her and they immediately stood up to follow her. Jill and I were soon on their heels. If they were going to have photos taken with Sandra, we were going to have photos taken with Sandra too. I expected Sandra to disappear really quickly but no, she just stood under the flags outside Rockefeller Center for a few minutes. Then she spent time watching the ice skaters. She had such a peaceful, happy look on her face that I didn’t want to approach her for a picture. I’m glad the other girls didn’t either. Soon, a man appeared and he and Sandra hugged. They talked for a bit under the flags. “Aww, she’s on a date,” I told Jill. “Now I really don’t want to bug her.” Soon they walked off together arm in arm. They looked so happy. And the look on Sandra’s face as she looked up at him? Pure adoration. Kill me for the cheesiness, I don’t care, she looked so in love. And her happiness was so powerful and tangible that it killed my desire to sulk.
A picture with Sandra would have been awesome but we couldn’t bring ourselves to mess with her quiet afternoon. It would have felt like a real intrusion. Funny how magical New York can be. I was sad because I wasn’t able to meet one of my most favorite Korean women in the world but New York made me feel better by giving me an accidental encounter with another Korean woman I love. Hours later, as Jill was checking her photos from our entire day, Jill noticed that Sandra looked up at the flags at Rockefeller Center as if she was trying to look for one before standing underneath it. So we figured, she and her date probably said, “Let’s meet at the _______ flag outside Rockefeller.” Which is romantic. And cool. And now jet lag is killing me and I’m literally falling asleep as I type this and I normally stop writing when I get sleepy because I know I would just end up waking up the next day wanting to redo the whole thing but I can’t stop and I must not stop. Because I need to tell you that I saw Sandra Oh today and that I love her and that I love New York and that I think New York loves me too.

A Benefit For The New Black Fest

Lynn Nottage, a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, hosted a benefit in her home in Brooklyn in order to raise money to create a festival "aiming to showcase innovative work by and about black people from around the world."

Sandra Oh attended the event which was held on June 28th and New York Times has the scoop:

Ms. Hall and Suzan Lori-Parks (“Topdog/Underdog”) were among the prominent playwrights attending the benefit. By the end of the night, $7,000 had been raised as the hat was passed among about 45 people from the world of film and theater, including Sandra Oh (“Grey’s Anatomy”), Russell Hornsby and Chris Chalk (who play the sons in the Broadway revival of “Fences”), Eisa Davis (“Passing Strange”), the directors Malcolm Lee and Charles Randolph-Wright, and David Dower, associate director of Arena Stage in Washington, D.C.

At The Borough Market In London

We've lost the count by now, but here is another Sandra (and Kevin McKidd) sighting in London from earlier today:

And then.. while lining up for some sausage thing (you see, everything good has a long queue at Borough Market), KY spotted Owen (Kevin McKidd) from Grey’s Anatomy. I wasn’t very convinced. Hard to tell. Grace was skeptical. But then we finally realised it was him when him and Sandra Oh (Christina Yang on Grey’s) walked past us… WHOA! Made KY go up to them to ask.. but then they refused a photo. It is alright. We totally understand. Don’t wanna feel like a paparazzi simply snapping people’s photos away without permission.

Sandra And 200 Other Canadians Celebrate Hockey Gold

Canada and the US played the Olympics hockey finale yesterday and a bunch of Canadians gathered in Los Angeles to watch the game together. Here's a report from the The Lost Boy:

At the Hudson Bar on the corner of North Crescent Heights and Santa Monica, I joined at least 200 Canadians (including Sandra Oh, Deborah Kara Unger, the guy who played Rory’s dad on “Gilmore Girls,” the guy who played Joey Potter’s boyfriend in season 3 of “Dawson’s Creek,” and two “Degrassi: The Next Generation” cast members!!) to watch the gold medal game between the U.S. and Canada this afternoon.

Honestly, I expected 15 people sitting around a bar… which would have been nice and intimate, but nothing as exhilarating as this. Like something out of a parallel universe, we cheered and high fived and drank bottomless mimosas decked out in various Canadian garb. And when Canada won, I’ll admit I nearly teared up at how passionate the scene was, finding what was probably the most patriotism I’d ever experienced as we collectively sang “Oh Canada” along with the TV…. And then to walk out into 22 degree February air afterwards - essentially the opposite of Canadian - was a nice touch.

Christina Hendricks' Holiday Party

Did you know that Sandra and Christina Hendricks from the brilliant TV show Mad Men were buds? Here is the gossip tidbit from People:

She's thrown parties as newlywed Joan Harris on AMC's Mad Men – and even in real life Christina Hendricks is quite the hostess!

Last Saturday, the actress and her new husband Geoffrey Arend threw a holiday bash at their downtown Los Angeles home, drawing famous friends like costar Jon Hamm, Marisa Tomei, Sandra Oh and Neil Patrick Harris. Guests noshed on shrimp skewers and other appetizers, catered by the How I Met Your Mother star's boyfriend David Burtka, with drinks provided by Corzo tequila. (Harris was so proud of Burtka that he Tweeted pictures of his "delish" spread – as well as the party guests!)

Canadian Chic Magnet

Back in LA:

There really is something about the familiar. Nepean, Ontario's Sandra Oh was in Beverly Hills window shopping this past week, coming up empty handed, when she stopped to look in the windows of the newly opened Aldo boutique, the Montreal-based shoe store. A smile of recognition went over the Grey's Anatomy star's face, and, says a witness, in she walked. The last time we checked, Avril Lavigne (yes, without Deryck Whibley) was there too.
