Cristina/Meredith: Another Uninnocent, Elegant Fall Into The Unmagnificent Lives Of Adults

Sandra Oh has recently talked about being excited about a "fantastic" storyline involving the friendship between Cristina and Meredith coming up this season, and Ellen Pompeo has a few more details about what exactly the storyline entails:

Ellen Pompeo: "This is the beginning of their break-up, where Cristina doesn't believe that Meredith can be the same type of surgeon because she has kids."

"Meredith feels betrayed, like Cristina is not supporting her. She's just judging her and saying, 'You can't be a great surgeon because you want to be a great mom,' and that's it -- she's just writing her off because she thinks her focus is elsewhere," Pompeo adds.

"I think the writers want to focus on the separation of Meredith and Cristina right now," she says as the series prepares to see Oh exit following the end of season 10. "I would like to see Meredith fight back and accuse Cristina of that. But I'm not sure. The easiest thing for them to do right now is to separate them because they have to separate Cristina from a few people, and I think this seems like the easiest path for them."

What kind of tomfoolery is this? This doesn't sound fantastic at all, dear peeps. But how do you feel about this storyline?

Ellen Pompeo: Sandra Oh Is Going Out With A Bang

Ellen Pompeo was on The View today where she commented on Sandra's departure from Grey's Anatomy at the end of the season:

Ellen Pompeo and Sandra Oh in Grey's Anatomy:

"As sad that it is that's she's leaving - and I know the fans are really upset - to know Sandra Oh, I think that this is going to be her best acting season ever. She's gonna go out with a bang. I have a really positive spin on it. She's going to want to really, really bring it this season. As she does every year, of course."

A Panel Discussion With Sandra Oh & Ellen Pompeo - Full Webcast

On Monday, Sandra Oh and Ellen Pompeo took part in An Evening With Shonda & Friends a panel discussion where they talked about working on Grey's Anatomy.

We've posted a recap of the panel discussion earlier, but now you can watch it in its entirety in the video below:

Grey's Scoop From The Panel Discussion With Sandra Oh - Recap

If you didn't get a chance to watch the panel discussion with Sandra Oh, Ellen Pompeo and Grey's boss Shonda Rhimes, here's a recap about what they talked about.

When it comes to Cristina Yang's professional life, Sandra Oh revealed that we're about to see some classic funny Cristina Yang in what she calls a "doctor-off" with an older doctor played by William Daniels.

Sandra also gave some interesting insight in what's going on with Cristina and Owen at the moment and why she likes this storyline:

Video credit: @courtneyminton

Here are some tidbits from E! Online & THR:

  • Slow Burn: Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Cristina might be in the most difficult place of their, at times, rocky relationship but Sandra Oh said this has been building for a few seasons and might not be solved instantly: "If you can take a look and go back for years, you can see places where things were glossed over, decisions were made out of haste." She continues: "The question of where they are going, what I can say in a very general but truthful way, is that hopefully they are going to a place that is truthful for both characters, that is not am immediately solvable situation. So we're going to be in this storyline for a bit." It has to get worse before it can get better, right? - E! Online

  • Don't expect to see Cristina and Owen's marriage woes wrap up anytime soon. After learning of Owen's affair, Oh says the story line will be drawn out in a fashion that's realistic to relationships and marriages. "It's a devastating and true and common situation that more than 50 percent of couples have to go through in some way or another," she told THR. "What I'm happiest is with is that they're taking their time. It's not going to be something that is resolved or ended quickly." - THR

  • Meredith and Cristina are both exploring hospitals out of state. Cristina is being heavily recruited and has her eye on USC. - THR

  • Graduating Class of 2012: Things are in flux at Grey's Anatomy and Shonda explains why that is, this little group of interns we met way back eight years ago are graduating. She elaborates: "They are going to become attendings, they have to take their boards, they have to interview for jobs all over the country. We don't know where people are going to end up in that sense. There's this very nostalgic sense that something is being lost for all of them." While we may what to cry at the idea of losing any of our favorite docs, Shonda promises some of the funniest moments are still to come this season, too. So...get ready to laugh-cry. Hard. - E! Online

The full webcast will be available here on April 5 so everyone will be able to watch it. In the meantime, here is a brief recap of some of the other things they discussed:

Sandra Oh Ellen Pompeo 'An Evening With Shonda Rhimes & Friends'
Screencap via @MaryPetrevic

- Sandra likes to know what will happen on the show in advance. If Shonda Rhimes doesn't tell her, she will go into her office and "stare her down".

- Ellen Pompeo and Sandra talked quite a bit about their working relationship. They have very different personalities and outlooks on life, so they "keep each other going".

- Ellen knew of Sandra before Grey's because she used to be a huge fan of HBO's Arliss, where Sandra Oh played the 'colourful' Rita Woo.

- Kadee Strickland from Private Practice remembers watching Sandra in Double Happiness when she was sick and she made her feel better.

- Sandra talked about how she got her first major role in The Diary of Evelyn Lau.

- The finale of Grey's has not yet been written, and Shonda Rhimes keeps changing her mind about it all the time.

That's all we can remember, so if anybody has anything else they want to add or want to make any corrections, please let us know in the comments.

Ellen Pompeo Loves Her Some Sandra Oh

Kristin from E! was on the set of Grey's Anatomy a few weeks ago where she interviewed the lovely Ellen Pompeo, who talked about a scene she was filming with Sandra Oh that day (which will air tomorrow next week), as well commenting on what's going on with Cristina and Owen and how much she loves working with Sandra:

ellen pompeo and sandra oh as cristina and meredith in grey's anatomy

What are you shooting today [for the same episode as the crossover]?
Today I am shooting with the lovely and talented Sandra Oh and she is having problems in her relationship and I'm trying to be the voice of reason and I love me some Sandra Oh.
Cristina and Owen [Kevin McKidd]: Is there hope?
I mean, that is a pretty serious situation what happened! And I could very easily see him walking away. Then again, I guess Meredith has a point: Why did he marry her? He knew exactly who she was, but it looks irreparable to me at this point.
But I do love acting with Sandra Oh. That's my favorite part of the show I'd have to say, well I love Patrick [Dempsey] too, but me and Sandra have something special.

True dat, Ellen! Eight years later, and we know that many of you agree, the friendship between Cristina and Meredith is still the best thing about Grey's Anatomy thanks to Sandra and Ellen's great on-screen chemistry.

Thanks to our awesome reader Lauren (aka COGreysLover) we have this video from the broadcast where Sandra gives her acceptance speech.

Sandra was also honoured by her current Grey's Anatomy co-stars Ellen Pompeo and Kevin McKidd, Grey's boss Shonda Rhimes, as well as her co-workers from her previous projects, including actor/director/friend Don McKellar. They all had some nice things to say about Sandra and her work, so check it all out in the video below:

Grey's Anatomy: Let The Contract Negotiations Begin!

You may know by now that Sandra Oh's contract on Grey's Anatomy expires at the end of season 8, along with her fellow original cast members. Ellen Pompeo talked to TV Guide about this where she and the reporter speculate that this season could possibly be Sandra and Patrick Dempsey's swan song:

The original cast of Grey's.

Ellen Pompeo: "... If I hear from the fans that they want us to keep going, then I would continue because we owe them everything."

But of course she's not speaking for Patrick, who may likely exit, along with Sandra Oh (Cristina), to pursue a film career. Surprisingly, Ellen says that wouldn't deter her from continuing Meredith's story.
"I have been blessed to work beside Sandra Oh for the past eight years; she's an incredible talent," says Ellen, who feels the same way about Patrick and "all the original cast members who aren't there anymore—T.R. [Knight], Isaiah [Washington], Katie [Heigl]. I didn't think the show could go on without any of them, yet we found a way to do it. It might be an interesting story for Meredith to have to deal with losing Cristina."

What do you think peeps? Will Sandra stay on for another season on Grey's Anatomy or will this be her last?

Sandra Tidbits Courtesy Of Ellen Pompeo

sandra oh and ellen pompeo

Ellen Pompeo has been promoting Grey's Anatomy this week and mentioned Sandra Oh in some of the interviews. This is what she said:

On storylines: Sandra Oh vs. the writers:

In television, it's a writers' medium and you don't have a lot of control. I don't fight for many things. Sandra fights for a lot of things and I give her a lot of credit. She's an incredible actress. I fight for only what is super important.

- Ellen Pompeo, The View

If things don't work out between Meredith and McDreamy, Ellen can't see Meredith hooking up with any of the other guys on the show:

"But, maybe... I think Sandra Oh is really hot. You never know. You know that Shonda Rhimes loves a lesbian story."

Ellen Pompeo Praises Sandra Oh Some More

Here is another interview with Ellen Pompeo where she talks highly about working with Sandra Oh after seven seasons of Grey's:

sandra oh and ellen pompeo

Pompeo said they're filming the eighth of 24 episodes for the current season. The first 12 are "absolutely dedicated to everybody getting on the mend" in the aftermath of the mass shooting, she said.

"They'll probably transition out the last 12 episodes, but it'll be a gradual thing, but they'll eventually have to move on after everyone's healed."

Pompeo also had high praise for Canadian co-star Sandra Oh, who portrays Cristina, Meredith's BFF.

The 40-year-old said she and Oh always say that the real love story of the series is between their characters. Off-screen, Pompeo said she and the Nepean, Ont.-born actress have become quite close.

"The other day we showed up on set wearing similar outfits and we just looked at each other and said: `Seven seasons,'" she recalled, smiling. "We've morphed into each other."

Pompeo called Oh one of the "most compelling actresses there is, period" and said she considers herself lucky to work with her.

"I think my work is more interesting because I'm reacting to her and she's so compelling and dedicated to what she does. She cares very deeply about her craft," she said.

"She's a huge part of why the show is so engaging and compelling and why people are so hooked, because she draws you in. So I can't say enough about her, and we owe a great deal of our success to her."

Ellen Pompeo: Season 7 To Be Remarkable Because Of Sandra Oh

Ellen Pompeo has being promoting a new charity campaign about diper need called Every little bottom and while doing so she's also been answering questions about Grey's Anatomy.

This morning she paid a visit to a morning talk show in Canada where she said all kinds of nice things about Sandra, so check out the transcribed interview below:

sandra oh and ellen pompeo
Ellen Pompeo and Sandra Oh

Q: Any sneak peeks into any plot lines this season?

Ellen Pompeo
: Well, I've gotta say, the whole beginning of season 7, the basis of the story line runs around Sandra Oh's character Cristina Yang, who is dealing with PTSD from the shooting.

And I can't say enough about Sandra as an actress. As a person she's wonderful too and fellow Canadian. But she's so dedicated to her craft and it means so much to her. She puts so much into her work. Her story line this season is so compelling, she's doing a fantastic job and she's one of the most compelling actresses on TV today. Certainly one of the most compelling actresses anywhere in my opinion. And the first half of this season is going to be remarkable because of her.

Very cool! We love those two.

Yang's Anatomy?

The lovely Ellen Pompeo talked to E! Online about what storylines we can expect to see this season on Grey's Anatomy and mentioned that a lot of focus will be on Cristina Yang and her PTSD.  She also said some nice things about Sandra Oh, so check it out below:

Sandra Oh and Ellen Pompeo
Now, while it seems unfortunate that baby-making isn't going to be a focus of Grey's this season, there are quite a few other storylines to focus on. Pompeo tells us the biggest one is for Mer's soulmate, Cristina (Sandra Oh), saying, "The first half of the season is a great storyline that centers around Sandra Oh's character and her post-traumatic stress disorder, which she's dealing with from the shooting. It's played brilliantly by Sandra. Her acting is impeccable, and the storyline is great for her. I think it's a very entertaining first half of the season."

We like the sound of that.

Meredith Grey Approves

Sandra Oh's co-stars Ellen Pompeo and Kevin McKidd talk about Cristina Yang in a yet another new article by TV Guide:

sandra oh, ellen pompeo and kevin mckidd

In turn, Derek will provide support in the marital department. "Owen comes to Derek for advice," McKidd says. "Even though he's married to Cristina (Sandra Oh) now, he still doesn't quite understand her a lot of the time, so Owen and Derek seem to end up connecting on that subject."

One good thing to come out of the traumatic events of the finale is that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) will respect Owen in a different way. "Cristina has expressed to her that there needs to be a 'me and Owen,'" Pompeo says. "So I think Meredith knows that Cristina really does need that."

"You'd expect Meredith to be very much against this pairing, but [the finale] changed her perspective on a lot of things," McKidd adds. "She basically questioned Owen's intentions in Season 6, and in that moment in the O.R. [in the finale], it suddenly made her realize the situation and how Owen really feels."

"Meredith very much becomes an advocate for Owen being the right guy for Cristina," he continues. "She realizes they're meant for each other and that's the first time we've seen that."

Grey's Anatomy: What About Cristina Yang?

The cast of Grey's Anatomy sound off on the new season and here's what they said about Cristina Yang:

Yang and Grey - the real power couple, according to Ellen Pompeo.

Cristina is not herself
"There's a little too much change there and Meredith is worried about Cristina's stability," Ellen Pompeo says of Cristina and Owen's wedding. "All of a sudden, she doesn't want to do surgery; she's not the same Cristina Yang. She doesn't have the same ambition, and she's looking through bridal magazines."

Who is the real power couple on Grey's Anatomy?
"People think it's about Meredith and Derek; it's really not," Pompeo jokes. "The love story is really Cristina and Meredith."

Cristina and Owen's wedding
"It's definitely an unexpected proposal," Kevin McKidd says, adding that the proposal takes place in a flashback. The rushed wedding is held at Meredith's house and will set up more drama for newlyweds. "The audience will see Owen and Cristina constantly question whether they made the right decision," McKidd says.

Grey's Anatomy: More Wedding Spoilers

More wedding spoilers from TV Guide, who talked to Ellen Pompeo about Meredith's take on the whole thing:

So excited about the Grey's Anatomy wedding. How will the other docs react? — Abby
ADAM:
Well, Meredith isn't exactly over the moon. "Meredith is worried that Cristina is getting married for the wrong reasons," Ellen Pompeo tells us. "She's traumatized after [the shooting] and she's rushing into marriage, which doesn't seem like the right move. It's not that she doesn't want her with Owen. ... There's just a little too much change there and Meredith is worried about Cristina's stability."
