Cristina/Owen: You Know You Have A Permanent Piece Of My Medium-Sized American Heart

There's been lots of news on Cristina and Owen this week due to Kevin McKidd's directing stint, and here's another article from THR who has interviewed Kevin McKidd where they go into great detail about where Cristina and Owen currently are in their relationship and what's about to come:

[Spoiler alert]

sandra oh, kevin mckidd, cristina yang, owen hunt, grey's anatomy

Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) have had their share of ups and downs on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.

He struggled with PTSD. She struggled with the same after the hospital shooting that traumatized everyone that led to their quickie marriage. To say the couple has issues would be a serious understatement, especially considering it wasn’t until after Cristina was pregnant and planning to have an abortion that they had a serious discussion about having children.

This week, Owen and Cristina will continue to tiptoe around their issues but as the actor – and director of this week’s episode – tells The Hollywood Reporter their problems will eventually catch up with them. “I don’t think there’s long to wait because they’ve brushed a lot under the carpet this season,” he says.

THR caught up with McKidd to discuss when and how the couple will confront their problems, if there could ever be a compromise and whether or not Cristina could ever realize that there’s more to life than her career.

THR: How long will Cristina and Owen continue to avoid facing their problems?
McKidd: That's going to keep coming back. Around midseason, I think, something is going to happen – some straw is going to break the camel’s back and they’re really going to have to deal with it. I’m not sure what the outcome is going to be, but I think it’s going to be pretty explosive. I don’t think there’s long to wait because they’ve brushed a lot under the carpet this season. I don’t think people will have to wait long to see the fallout from that.

THR: Will Owen eventually confront Cristina or are they avoiding talking because they love each other?
McKidd: I think that's the reason they do it, because they do really love each other. The problem they have is that they’ve got very different views on children. I think they’ll both eventually have to deal with each other. There’s a big thing that happens medically in the hospital that becomes the catalyst for this, it’s a very intense event that happens. I think that weighs on him and eventually that becomes the catalyst for them confronting each other with the truth.

THR: Is the heart of Owen and Cristina's problems the abortion or is it more about bigger issues like communication and a shared vision of what a marriage is?
McKidd: It's all of those things rolled into one. They’re going to get to a point where there’s at a fork in the road and they’re going to have to really decide what they're going to do, whether they can reconcile all those things or not. I think they have passion for each other but that isn’t always enough in a relationship. I think there’s going to be some dark times ahead for them and it's going to test whether they can make it through.
THR: Will Owen eventually turn to Richard or Derek about his feelings about Cristina's abortion?
McKidd: He and Derek are really starting to bond over a lot of things. The fact that Derek went through a period of being chief becomes quite a big support for Owen as we go forward. They're much more equals now in the hospital, so they can communicate pretty well. I think he’ll become attached to him.

THR: Will being the Chief impact Owen’s marriage?
McKidd: That’s one of the stories we’re telling in the next few episodes: there’s this big medical situation that happens and he has to make some hard decisions as chief and put all of your personal feelings aside. There will be something that happens that will really put a lot of pressure on Cristina and Owen and other colleagues. He’s suddenly in this position of power and having to try and navigate that, he doesn’t get it right all the time. So yes, absolutely.

THR: With Owen's career blossoming and Cristina's somewhat stumbling, will Cristina eventually realize that there's more to life than her career?
McKidd: I don’t know, maybe! Who knows. People do change. Maybe that’s just her. Maybe that’s never going to change for her and maybe that’s the point. That’s a story that hasn’t really been told before. Usually on TV shows eventually they come around but there are different people in the world and it would be naive of us to think that they don’t exist. I think it’s an interesting story itself and I don’t know the answer to that question.

THR: Can there be a compromise in terms of their differing ideas about family and children?
McKidd: Sure, absolutely. I don’t see any reason why not; it might be a hard one. But I can’t see any reason why there can’t be. They both have to be happy or there's no point in continuing and that’s the same in anybody’s relationship. What that looks like – that’s what they say about people in relationships behind closed doors: you can never really tell what a relationship is really like behind closed doors even if you think you know a couple really intimately, you can never really tell what it is that makes that relationship tick. Cristina and Owen are interesting, odd, powerful, passionate people with very strong ideas about life, so it makes a really good story to tell and a good journey to be on. What that looks like, I think will be more interesting than all of us can imagine because they’re so unique. If they’re going to be together, I think it’s going to be in quite an unusual way; they already live in a firehouse! (Laughs.)

THR: How will Owen factor in with what Derek is going through with Zola? Watching Owen with Zola and the backdrop of Cristian’s abortion is heartbreaking.
McKidd: I think all that does weigh down on Owen a lot. The fact that there’s this cute little baby toddler around, it’s a constant reminder to him. But yeah, it’s not going to be easy for Owen and it’s definitely not easy for Derek and Meredith to have Owen in the shadows with that longing.

THR: Will Owen wind up helping Derek and Meredith with what they’re going through with Zola?
McKidd: We’re on Episode 9 at the moment and he definitely talks and tries to be there for Derek. Meredith and Owen have never had the most warm and cozy-up relationship – there’s always been quite a bit of tension between the two of them when it comes to Cristina. Certainly I think Owen is there for Derek in the same way that Derek is there for Owen. Owen tries to be a good friend and a pair of ears for Derek with what he’s going through.

Cristina/Owen: Fun, Hot Stuff And A Braid

Last week Sandra Oh talked to E! Online about tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy and Cristina Yang wearing braid for the occasion. Now it's Kevin McKidd's turn, who talks cryptically about what's coming up for Cristina and Owen later on, and what you need to know about Cristina's braid in tonight's episode, because it's all in the details, folks.

Watch Kevin talk about that in the video below (below the cut):

"Not just sex. Hot, dirty, stand-on-my-head sex."

This is what Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) is hoping for with her on-screen squeeze Owen (Kevin McKidd) in tonight's episode of Grey's Anatomy.

We were on set for the filming, and can tell you the episode does not disappoint. Perhaps because Kevin McKidd is so good at contorting himself into at least two very different positions…

What, did you think we were talking about some other kind of "positions," you perv?! (Well, there'll be plenty of that too, as Cristina and Owen embark on a sexathon that lands them in a few inappropriate settings, including a conference room, much to the chief's dismay.)

Our camera crews were invited to set to chat up Grey's hair, makeup and wardrobe specialists for a special behind-the-scenes segment airing on E! News. The girls also gave us some romance scoop (which we shared last week), and Kevin had this to say about where things are headed with Cristina: "It's going to get more interesting. I think the waters have settled a little bit, but you never know when the wind can change and the water can get rough again."

Grey's Anatomy: 8.06 "Poker Face" - Sneak Peeks [Update]

UPDATE: Another sneak peek added + a word from the director.

Cristina Yang only has one thing on her mind and it's not surgery:

Cristina, Owen and Richard:

"Poker Face" -- After being blackballed by most of the surgeons, Meredith uses Lexie to spark Derek's interest in her patient's rare brain tumor case and, in secret, gives guidance to April with Bailey's clinical trial; Callie's wish for Arizona and Mark to form a friendship comes to fruition and she realizes it's more irritating than helpful; Alex and Teddy research alternative surgeries for a very superficial patient; and Callie and Cristina struggle with a very difficult spinal surgery, on Grey's Anatomy," THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20 (9:00-10:02 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

UPDATE: Kevin McKidd, who directed this week's episode, had a chat with THR about filming the kissing scenes that are coming up between Cristina and Owen:

Kevin McKidd (Owen) returns to the director's chair for Thursday's episode of Grey's Anatomy and this time, has a bit more material to work with -- including love scenes with his on-screen wife Sandra Oh (Cristina).

After taking his first turn behind the camera last season, McKidd tells The Hollywood Reporter that his experience helming Thursday's "Poker Face" episode in which he shares a number of love scenes with Oh was "quite surreal."

"It's weird doing those [love] scenes anyway, and suddenly you're choreographing your own love scenes," he tells THR. "Luckily, in my episode it was a very comedic, light and fun episode. I thought it would be more awkward than it ended up being. It was a bit weird going to see playback and watching yourself make-out!"

McKidd notes despite additional pressure returning to the helm for a second time, there was a lot of laughter on the set to break up the tension.

"Watching yourself kissing somebody just feels weird so there was a lot of laughter on the set about that," he says with a laugh.
In a clip from Thursday's exclusive to THR, check out the new chief as he encourages the fifth-year residents to record as many "good outcome" surgeries as they prepare for their boards, but a very flirtatious Cristina who takes to "sexting" in the episode interrupts him.

Kevin McKidd will be live-tweeting tomorrow during the episode to answer all your questions about the episode, so follow him at @TheRealKMcKidd.

Cristina/Owen: Braid My Hair And Take Me For A Ride

Hey Cristina/Owen fans,

E! News has some more exclusive scoop for you from a recent on set interview with Sandra Oh and in this video Sandra talks about what is coming up for Cristina and Owen in next week's episode 8.06 Poker Face (directed by co-star Kevin McKidd) and why Cristina is sporting the hair and make-up that she does throughout the series:

[Spoiler-ish]

What we do know? Christina and Owen are definitely on the road back to happy coupledom after their pregnancy (termination) issues earlier this season. In fact, Sandra Oh teases that the script for next week's episode inspired her to do something she never lets her hair stylist (Melanie Smith) do: Put in a giiiiirrly braid.

"I've always been kind of a stickler for my hair, meaning like I rarely every change it," Sandra admits. "I don't like things that are too pretty because I just don't feel it falls into the character. I think Christina is very very practical and doesn't really care about how she looks. Good or bad, I think that it's quite true to the character. But this episode happens to be where there is a lot of romance between myself and Owen Hunt so I thought maybe a little prettier hair."

You heard that right, Crowen diehards, a lot of romance! And the episode is also directed by Kevin McKidd himself, so you'll certainly get your hot Scot fix. (This just in from Shonda Rhimes and the Grey's writing staff: You're welcome.)

Cristina/Owen: Sandra Oh Brings The Scoop

Stop the presses, because this is a rare occurrence, dear folks.

Usually Sandra Oh's co-stars are the ones bringing the scoop on Cristina Yang, but this time Kristin on E! has talked to the woman, the myth, the legend Ms. Sandra Oh herself, on what's coming up for next Cristina and Owen in Grey's Anatomy:

milee1017: Why is Cristina Yang cooking in the Grey's promo? What is next for Cristina/Owen on Grey's?

It hasn't been good for Cristina-Owen fans so far this season, huh? Well, chin up. We were on-set recently, and Sandra Oh revealed that there was a "romantic storyline" involving Owen in the episode that they were shooting. And Cristina looked as feminine as we've seen her in a long time. Sounds like those two might be headed down a less-bumpy road.

    An Amazing Honour - Interview

A brief interview with Sandra Oh from the red carpet at Canada's Walk Of Fame this Saturday (below the cut):

    Professional Admiration: Burton Cummings

Canadian rock legend Burton Cummings, who was also inducted into Canada's Walk Of Fame on Saturday, is a huge fan of the movie Sideways and he wrote this on his blog about meeting Sandra Oh this weekend:

One of the perks of last weekend was the fact that i got to speak to Sandra Oh and tell her how much i had admired “Sideways”…really, honestly, in my “film buff opinion” one of the best american movies ever made. I was able to tell her face to face how i’ve actually watched it about 8 or 9 times. I don’t do that a lot with films. Not many films are magical or captivating enough to make you want to view them over and over, the way one might listen repeatedly to the white beatles album or the soft parade or any music album by any artist from any era…

I was able to quote a couple of her lines to her and it made her laugh. And it felt as though she was equally glad to meet and talk to me…i guess since she grew up in ontario and she’s only forty, i’ve sort of “been on the radio her whole life”… just wanted to show you another fleeting moment from a pretty buzzed-out week…
