Nobody Puts Cristina Yang In The Corner Pt. 2

The cast of Grey's Anatomy attended a press conference with the foreign press some time ago, which is where this Brazilian article is from. Here is more from that press conference from an article published today in a Singaporean newspaper.

RIGHT after I received a text message that my friends had just welcomed their baby into the world, I rushed myself to the hospital. I did not see the neonate and his proud parents, though. Mainly because they were in Singapore and I was in Hollywood - and the sign on the hospital doors read "Seattle Grace Hospital".

I was on the set of that ever-popular hospital drama, Grey's Anatomy, and boy, did it feel uncannily like a real hospital - tacky linoleum flooring, classically-furnished waiting room, a bunch of stretchers, tongue depressors. Just without the smell of disinfectant. But with one very fetching design element: Eric "McSteamy" Dane.

Yes, us lucky journos got a chance to chat with one of the most good-looking casts to work in a hospital - yes, Grey's leaves House MD, Chicago Hope, ER and General Hospital eating its dust in the hottie stakes.
...
Meanwhile - and try to keep up here - we got on with what happens in the new sixth season: George O'Malley (played by T R Knight) is killed off; Mark Sloan (Dane) and Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) are still dating but Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) have a few problems in their relationship when Lipstick Jungle's Kim Raver enters the fray playing a surgeon from Owen's past. Jessica Capshaw, who plays the lover of Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez), is promoted to a series regular; and Chandra Wilson, who plays Miranda Bailey, even directs an episode.

At the press conference, the cast gave us the lowdown, while I tried not to let McSteamy catch me staring. No, I wasn't perving - I was on the look out while contemplating sneaking a tongue depressor for a souvenir. And no, that's not a colourful euphemism.

How difficult was it to shoot that emotional first episode where George dies?

Sandra Oh: That was really strange and noticeable within our cast dynamic. I personally wish we'd dealt with it a little bit more.
What else is in store for your characters this season?

Sandra: (Kim Raver) better bring her A-game! Try to break me and my man up? But who knows? There are little bits of ups and downs, but mostly it's more of a regular relationship.

Kevin McKidd: Yeah, the thrust for them last year was dealing with this whole syndrome Hunt's dealing with. Now, their life is, 'What are we as a partnership and as a relationship?' The problem has been, in some way, laid to rest. It's much more normal.

Sandra: Yeah, it's not as fraught with, 'Are we going to be together?'

Kevin: And 'Am I going to strangle you?' (Laughs)

Do you have disagreements with the show's writers over your characters?

Eric: Every day. One of my themes is, "I wouldn't say this". And they're like, "Yes, you would. Trust me, Eric, you would say this".

Kevin: I had a 10-page email exchange about what my character had for breakfast last week. It was 10 long paragraphs back and forth, back and forth, about why I shouldn't be having that.
