Grey's Anatomy: Cristina And Derek Sitting In A Tree...

Kidding, kidding. That would be too freaky. But they are up to something [not freaky].

Grey's boss Shonda Rhimes was interviewed by TV Guide in the latest issue of the magazine [with Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey on the cover] and she talked about Cristina and Owen's new living arrangement, the new special bond between Cristina and Derek, and the potential departure of the original characters.

It's all very interesting, but slightly spoilerish, so read below the pics if you want to know:

Cristina and Owen: Owen and Cristina tied the knot at Mer's, but they're not moving in with the rest of the Seattle Grace Mercy West crew. They'll be living in a cool converted firehouse.

Cristina and McDreamy: Frumpy attire should be the least of Meredith's concerns this season. Feeling she may pass on the genes of her Alzheimer's-stricken mother, not to mention alcoholic father, she tells Derek he'll be wind up one day babysitting "a drooling 80-year old wie with a drooling 50-year-old child". This drives Derek to team with Cristina (Sandra Oh) to find a cure for the disease.

"Sandra and I are working together in a way we haven't seen before," says Dempsey. "We're very intertwined. The shooting tragedy affected Cristina on a very deep level, so she and I have an experience together no one else shares."

The originals: Given the potential of losing her leading couple [Meredith and Derek], Rhimes has no choice but to create new character to fill voids left by departing favorites. "I'm looking at the show as heading into a future where many of the originals may stay and some of them may not," Rhimes says. "My feeling is, let's spend time telling some amazing stories about Derek, Meredith and Cristina while we have them. I only want our originals staying as long as there are compelling stories to tell for them."

Though word is Oh may also bolt when her contract ends, the other remaining originals - Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr all seem content to go the distance.

I'm afraid if Cristina, Meredith and Derek won't be there after season 8, I won't be there either...

I hope you're right that Sandra will leave after S7. She's so outgrown Grey's. She should have her own show. And hope Kevin leaves at the same time and makes more movies.

I will never watch this show again if there won't be MerDer/Cristina. MerDer is the point of this show and Cristina is the lead supporting character; there isnt a show without them!

There will never be another Cristina Yang. She, more than anyone else, made Grey's Anatomy work. I own all the seasons and I know this one will be unforgettable too. But I don't think I could watch the show next season without her....

Sandra Oh has a movie career ahead of her. And more TV shows and better parts where she is the lead, not playing second fiddle.

I am rooting for her and I know many millions of viewers are too. I think after Grey's Anatomy ends, Shonda Rimes will retire, but I hope that Sandra Oh never does. ;-)

Shonda Rhimes doesn't have to retire. She's among the powerful women in Hollywood. Her career hasn't even peaked. Methinks Sandra Oh can write her own ticket as far as the lead in a TV show.
Nor would I write her career off in the movies. She's extremely talented and has a huge following. It's time for her to move on from Grey's Anatomy after S7.

I hope Sandra's contract ends after season 7 and not season 8. Sandra deserves better than the lousy storylines Shonda writes for her. I hate that they're taking away her fire for surgery and having her marry someone whose love for her is questionable at best. It saddens me that the Cristina I watched for the last 6 seasons seems to have disappeared.

I'd rather see Sandra leave than watch her be transformed into this whole new other character for the sake of Owen. Sandra can do better than this show.

Funny, in every interview regarding the Owen/Cristina relationship that she has given, Sandra has been all for it. She likes the fact that Cristina has matured, and those are her own words. And Owen isn't the one taking away her love for surgery, it is a direct result of what happened to her last season when everyone was praising Cristina and Sandra Oh's performance. Who says she doesn't get that back this season? How quickly everyone seems to forget that this very same character who is supposedly doing something so horribly out of character was once ready to marry Burke.

And I don't see how Owen's love for her is questionable. Given the chance to choose, he chose her every time last season. It's canon that they love each other. Who says it isn't canon for Cristina to marry a man she loves? Sorry, I think people are making way too big a deal out of this whole 'Cristina is disappearing, she's losing herself, OMG' mentality. If Sandra Oh, the actress herself says it's in character and that is how she is playing the character...how is it uncharacteristic of Cristina to be a certain way on the show?

Sandra-Oh Blogger, do you think it would be at all possible to go back to the old commentary board?! I also wanted to let you know that I like your blog very much, and I thank you for keeping it so interesting and up to date!

The old comment system wasn't working properly, so had to remove it. But see what you mean and we're looking into other options. But until then, a tip to everyone...

The plot with Derek sounds great, I've been waiting for these two to create a closer friendship since the first season! It's about time!
Honestly, I won't keep watching the show after Sandra leaves. It's already difficult for me to keep watching it, because I'm only interested in her scenes, sometimes I even skip the rest. So part of me will be very sad, but other part will be relieved because I'll be able to stop watching the soap opera this show has become.
I won't be surprised if she decides to leave when her contract ends. It's been so many years, most of the actors must be already tired and wanting to do other things, and something tells me the only reason they don't is because of the stability this job gives them.
I remember reading Sandra saying she missed theater. I think it's totally understable.

And something else, I don't think Cristina has changed, she has matured and that's important, because the show and the character wouldn't be so rich if she would have been always stuck in the shame behavior.
Ashley, no offence but you are talking before even having watched a single episode of the new season. So you are prejudging. The fact that she won't be able to do surgeries for a while doesn't mean the character has changed. For what I read about her and Derek, she will be exactly that same doctor with a huge passion for medicine. The only difference is she will be working with Derek instead than doing surgeries with Teddy. Which I really really much prefer.
And about Owen, I think he is perfect for her and has showed how much he loves her. He riscked her life for her and he never cheated on her, which is something the rest of the characters have done with their supposed loved one but noone seems to want to realize...
The problem last season is Shonda wanted a new character to come in and to make her fit in the show the writers didn't mind to hurt the characters of Cristina and Owen, sometimes making them beinf actually out of character.
Now that they won't be using them with the purpose of making other people fit in, they will come back to what they always were.
