Directing Sandra

A tidbit from Kevin McKidd from an interview with Backstage on directing his first episode and directing Sandra (or is it the other way around):

Sandra Oh with director Eric Stoltz and co-star Kevin McKidd
on the set of Grey's Anatomy in 2008.

Back Stage: Did you get any flak from [onscreen wife] Sandra Oh?

McKidd: The whole crew and cast were so supportive. They could have easily acted out. They all knew that it's a big deal and it's a lot of responsibility and I didn't want to screw up. There was a point with Sandra where I was trying to nudge her into being slightly melodramatic in a certain moment. She was like, "Whoa, whoa, Kevin. No, no." Because she knows that I wouldn't have liked that direction if I was doing it. So, we had a joke about that.

Coming Up For Cristina And Owen This Season

Sandra's co-star Kevin McKidd is directing the upcoming episode of Grey's Anatomy which airs on Feb. 3 and here is new interview with Kevin who talks about what Cristina is up to in the episode and what is coming up for Cristina and Owen during the rest of the season:

TV Guide Magazine: What about Cristina? It must have been interesting directing your on-screen wife.
McKidd: Cristina is back to her old self. She and Jackson are vying for Teddy's attention for a triple bypass. This was my first time on the big stage directing and Sandra [Oh, Cristina] and everyone were so supportive and had my back. I felt really blessed. It was a huge joy!

TV Guide Magazine: What about your character? Where's Owen?
McKidd: Owen's sort of just referred to. I thought it was quite amusing that they have him going off to the dentist that day. Cristina manages to use this in her battle with Jackson in a very funny way.
....
TV Guide Magazine: Lastly, what's to come for Owen and Cristina as the season continues?
McKidd: They've been in a really good place ever since rushing in to this marriage, but something comes to light in this latter half of the season regarding a life situation going on with lots of people in the hospital. Cristina and Owen realize they have very opposing opinions on this life decision.

TV Guide Magazine: Sounds like they're also going to be discussing baby making?
McKidd: It's going to become a real problem for them. Kind of choppy. They both want different things. This will play out for the rest of the season and I'm told it will build toward something very interesting.

TV Guide Magazine: Well, if they've already survived both of their battles with post-traumatic stress disorder — including Owen strangling Cristina in bed — I would think the topic of babies should be a breeze.

McKidd: (Laughs) You never know....

Top 10 in 2010 On Sandra Oh News

To summarize the year 2010, we have compiled a top 10 list of the ten most popular posts here on Sandra Oh News during the year. Let us begin the countdown:

Sandra Oh and co-star Ellen Pompeo have a side project together outside of Grey's and have both been cast in the musical The Goree Girls starring Jennifer Aniston. Supposedly. There is no official confirmation, so until then it only remains a rumour. Those singing skills will be tested soon enough though in the upcoming musical episode of Grey's.

Cristina and Owen got married on Grey's Anatomy in the season premiere to everyone's surprise and ABC released tons of photos from the wedding. Cristina+Owen fans cheered. Cristina+Jackson fans, not so much.

The popular book series about police detective Tom Thorne by Mark Billingham was adapted into a television series in UK and Sandra Oh was cast as English copper Sarah Chen. Sandra spent the summer in London shooting the series based on the book Scaredy Cat which premiered in November in the UK.

Of course, by now you know what happened.

Sandra Oh met up with her Grey's co-star Kevin McKidd in London during the summer who was also there shooting a movie, and they attended the Sex and The City 2 movie premiere together.

The cast of Grey's Anatomy ditched their usual blue scrubs and got glammed up for their promotional group photo. That's bananas!

We'll say it again. Only 2 minutes of bloopers?! Ay dios mio.

Sandra Oh and Kevin McKidd did some more partying in London this summer with a dude with blog.

People magazine released the first Cristina and Owen wedding photo along with a rare brief interview with Sandra Oh who usually doesn't talk about Grey's with the press.

Everyone and their mother (Seriously, peeps!) wanted to know if Sandra Oh was leaving Grey's Anatomy and Grey's boss Shonda Rhimes finally confirmed that Sandra Oh will be here for season 8. Woo-hoo! Grey's Anatomy without Cristina Yang would be like...Well, you finish that sentence.

Thanks to all our visitors and everyone who has contributed to the site throughout the year and we'll try to make the new one even better.

Don't forget that you can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook to receive all the latest updates.
